As engineering best practices around separating deploys from releases, testing in production, and observability-driven development have gone mainstream, the metrics-driven approach to telemetry has stalled, and it’s time for a new version: Observability 2.0. At #Devopsdays Porto, Charity Majors will talk about what this new version means for your engineers, and how to embrace this breaking change, during her session "Is it time to version observability? (Signs point to yes)." Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gp7NR4rE

The fin-tech industry and its supporters, particularly a vast network of non-profit organizations, constitute a tragically delightful terrain of contradictions! It skillfully engineers problems through unfettered capitalist expansion, then generously dips into overflowing pots of money gained from creating these very problems to propose "solutions.". This mechanism, however, boosts its legitimacy. Then, the self-proclaimed solutionists label anyone who scrutinizes these issues as "negative". But should we really be surprised? After all, ours is an era of individualistic "positive thinking" and "growth mentality"! While the fin-tech moguls and their uncritical adherents staunchly advocate for "action," they vehemently oppose collective actions, especially those that challenge their interests, for they consider them disruptive to their missions. Another appallingly amusing contradiction lies therein. The fin-tech industry advances its own interests by precisely claiming to be "disruptive," fueled by substantial amounts of donor-driven and personal/organizational cash – all while vociferously asserting to be evidence-based and impactful. What a truly bizarre world we inhabit!

We know DuckDB is high-quality, performant software. But I didn't appreciate how well the people building it are organized. Here's a section of the 1.0.0 release announcement: DuckDB Labs: The core contributors. Instead of developing features that will be behind a paywall, they provide support and consulting. Awesome. DuckDB Foundation: A non-profit that ensures DuckDB remains MIT licensed. Perfect.
