We are proud to mark the completion and successful handover of 14 homes in Kaiapoi, North Canterbury. This project reflects the collective expertise and dedication of our team and partners, who worked tirelessly to ensure these homes meet a high standard of quality, design, and liveability. Large-scale residential construction is never without its challenges, and projects like this highlight the importance of collaboration, attention to detail, and a shared vision. Each step, from planning through to handover, is an opportunity to refine how we deliver for the families and communities that will call these spaces home. This achievement is not just about the buildings themselves but about the trust placed in us to contribute meaningfully to the fabric of the Kaiapoi community. It is a privilege to play a role in strengthening the foundations of this kāinga and its future.

📌 Design Guide Plan (DGP) - Beruwala After preparing the Local Development Plan for Beruwala, our team developed a Design Guide Plan (DGP) for the locality. In this plan, we focused on the development strategies identified in the Local Development Plan and expanded on them. The area was divided into four main zones: Marine-Based Economic Development, Waterfront Development, Residential Development, and Service-Based Mixed Development. For each zone, we assigned design guidelines, concepts, and elements. And also analyzed how the built form would change according to these guidelines. Finally, conducted an impact assessment to identify the effects of the Detailed Growth Plan. Talking to Xinhua New Media on the uniqueness of Beijing Central Axis (UNESCO World Heritage Site) I am standing here with the video crew on the historic Wanning Bridge where the Central Axis crosses the (end of the) Grand Canal. By the way, did you know that the layout of Beijing's historic city with the Central Axis as its backbone was based on principles that were laid down already 3,000 years ago, in a work called Kaogongji (Records of Craftsmen) containing architectural practices, construction methods and urban planning principles?

It was an absolute pleasure to help bring the Korako Whānau Papakāinga to Open Christchurch Architecture Festival last weekend. Thank you to Christine Korako, Nuk Korako, and Perry T Royal for opening your beautiful space to the masses. If I'm honest though, I nominated this papakāinga for inclusion in Open Christchurch for selfish reasons. . Professionally, I spend a lot of time trying to get enabling papakāinga policy into plans. Often though, these provisions are heavily opposed. Submitters will say that living next to a papakāinga will reduce their property values, increase crime in their neighborhood, destroy the amenity of the area etc... and I know part of this fear is because when many people see the word 'papakāinga' they think of caravans, portacoms, sheds, and other piecemeal developments. The Korako Whānau Papakāinga is a world away from those misconceptions! . By inviting people to see this beautiful (and much more typical, I might add) example of what papakāinga can be, I'm hoping that it becomes the new picture that pops into people's minds when they think of this typology. I also hope that every single person who visited (of which there were over 100!) shares their experience with their friends and neighbours, and that it all helps reduce that fear of the unknown that underpins many of these submissions. . If we apropriatly provide for papakāinga developments in our plans, we will end up with more developments like this. If we continue to make it almost impossible to build papakāinga, then we are more likely to get outcomes that aren't fit for purpose, which only perpetuates those negative steriotypes. We get the urban form we allow under our plans.
