Purpose-built AI for drug discovery has exploded in the last 12-18 months. 2023 alone saw 70+ notable LLMs across scientific, protein, genomic, and molecular domains. EvolutionaryScale's ESM3 model, announced earlier this week, is yet another groundbreaking technology that will transform the pace of discovery. In an industry where nothing changes overnight, change is now coming faster than we expect. AI is fundamentally altering the way drugs are designed. But if we fail to reimagine our R&D system to handle the new speed and scale of AI-driven discovery, the industry risks over-promising and under-delivering to the patients who need new medicines the most.
