Our director of operations, Amy LoVecchio shares her insights on NPR's recent article about libraries giving a leg up to entrepreneurs. 📚 "Libraries are under-appreciated powerhouses of knowledge in a world drowning in superficial fluff. They are treasure chests of free resources. Want to learn about UI/UX or coding? Check. Need a quiet place to brainstorm your next big idea? Double-check. Yes, it’s true that access can vary widely from one library to another, but many are making strides to provide equitable resources and support for all communities. These investments are transforming libraries into personal think tanks, all without the overhead costs of fancy co-working spaces. It’s like having an economic dev office in your backyard. They’re helping budding entrepreneurs gain skills and access resources that turn knowledge into economic growth. FOR FREE. They’ve also leveled up in the digital realm. They offer ebooks, audiobooks, and databases on repeat and they’re helping communities navigate this overwhelming digital landscape. While paid online resources are undeniably convenient, there’s something irreplaceable about the community engagement and diversity that libraries provide." 👏 Here’s a link to find your local library: Stay forever curious… https://lnkd.in/eV2732ru #library #libraries #entrepreneur #learning #knowledge #growth #innovation #resources #skills #accessibility #engagement #community

My latest book, "Fatherless to Fortune: The Rise of Dennis Carter", will be available soon in paperback, ebook, and audio book. The story follows Dennis Carter, a young African American boy growing up without a father in the challenging streets of North Memphis. Raised by his hardworking mother, Leona, Dennis faced numerous obstacles but developed a strong sense of resilience, determination, and a natural talent for problem-solving and electronics. Despite the temptations and struggles of his environment, Dennis pursued his passion for technology, eventually starting his own electronics repair business in his late teens. Through perseverance, Dennis transformed his small business, Carter Electronics, into a global tech empire. His journey was marked by numerous challenges, including systemic barriers, personal struggles, and health issues, but he continued to innovate and invest in his community. Dennis’s commitment to social change led to the creation of the Carter Youth Initiative and later the Carter Global Foundation, focusing on mentorship, education, and providing technology to underserved communities worldwide. As Dennis’s company expanded, he remained focused on his core values: uplifting others, creating affordable technology, and leaving a lasting impact on the world. In his later years, Dennis’s ventures extended into space technology and global philanthropic efforts, cementing his legacy as both an entrepreneur and humanitarian. Dennis’s story is one of overcoming adversity, building a successful business from the ground up, and using his wealth and influence to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. His legacy is carried forward by his children and the countless individuals he mentored and inspired along the way. Chapter 1: A Broken Promise

How you can explain your work in simple and relatable for primary school students: Imagine you’re selling cakes or cookies at school. If someone comes and helps you learn how to make your cakes even tastier while also using ingredients without wasting them, you’d be happy, right? That’s what I do. I help business owners and entrepreneurs gain new knowledge, like how to save energy or use materials more wisely, so their businesses can grow while also taking care of our planet. Another example, imagine if you had lots of books and paper at home. If we keep buying new paper and don’t reuse the old ones, we would need to cut down more trees to make more paper. My job is to help people learn how to use resources wisely. For example, using both sides of a piece of paper or recycling it so we don’t waste too much and can save the forests." "I also work with people and businesses to help them be successful while taking care of the environment. For instance, if a shop uses too much electricity or water, I help them figure out ways to save energy and water so they don’t harm the environment but can still run their business well. Sometimes, I also organize campaigns or events to teach more people how to recycle or reduce waste, so we can all take care of the planet together and another important part of my job is this, i also help small business owners or entrepreneurs by giving them opportunities to learn new skills and find support that helps them grow their business. For example, I create platforms or organize programs where they can learn new ideas and connect with other people who want to help them succeed. This way, they can improve their businesses while also thinking about how to care for the environment. In addition, I also help them find opportunities to promote their businesses. For example, if there’s an exhibition or event, I’ll help them showcase their products to more people so their businesses can thrive and succeed. That's my explanation to you kids. Do you understand?
