Feeling Disheartened But Not Defeated 😞 As someone with a diverse career background spanning roles in banking (Branch Manager, Relationship Manager) and administration, along with an MBA, I never imagined that in today's world, it would be this difficult to secure even a menial job. It's truly frustrating to realize that despite having over a decade of experience, a Master's degree, and skills that span leadership, customer relations, operational management, and team coordination, I still find myself struggling to even get an interview for entry-level roles. As professionals, we often hear that skills are in demand and opportunities are plentiful, but the reality on the ground feels very different. In 2007, I was interviewed for a role in a pharma company in Karachi. The interviewer asked me questions from various fields, especially tax, which I answered confidently. However, he kept searching for something I didn't know just to say, "Oh, so you don't know this, we can't hire you." Fast Forward 30 minutes into the interview, finally, he asked, "Do you know Pivot Tables in Excel?" At that time, I didn't. That was the reason I was rejected, despite my knowledge and experience aligning perfectly with the job. What I realized later is that it takes just a few minutes or hours to learn a software tool, but the hard-earned experience and expertise in a field can't be replaced by knowing how to use a specific function in a software program. Let’s focus on the actual qualifications and knowledge needed for the job, not just specific software skills.
