Taking a break means I have more time to organize my thought. One of the discussion I had this week is why energy measurement is important. For most manufacturing companies, while pledging CO2 reduction, majority of current effort is on Green energy through consumption of renewable or low carbon sources, or, through purchasing of carbon credit. However, it is possible to start 4 R: Renewable, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. To have the correct actions for Reduce, it is needed to identify where is the inefficiencies during energy journey: conversion/ distribution / consumption. This is where proper instrumentation, monitoring system will help identify the source of problems, and we can start troubleshooting & optimization of the highest inefficiency for best results. Imagine, OEE for energy.
