When does 1 + 1 = 1/2? In your writing. In fact, the MORE you try to convince your reader, the LESS effective you’ll be. Especially if it’s more of the same. When you edit your writing, look out for: -two similar quotes -two paragraphs that could be combined -two intros (or two conclusions) Two is half as effective. Be ruthless. Choose one!

That is not your friend. It’s probably the unnecessary word you use most in your writing. I know because I used to have this problem. I could eliminate up to 20 thats in a single piece of writing. Now, I quickly identify the problem with other writers. To avoid overusing that, go ahead and write as normal. Then, when you edit your piece, run through one edit where you only look for the word that. Use your computer's "find" function to make it simple. Remove it every time you can do so without losing meaning in your sentence. 🤓 You’ll find that about eight times out of 10, it isn’t necessary. Use it well.

What's slows you down? 🚸 ▶ You have no idea whether what you want to write is great or something less. ▶ You can’t be the judge of your own material. ▶ Your readers cast the deciding vote, not you. ▶ Do the best you can, polish your writing to the best of your ability, and let your readers decide. And while they are deciding, keep writing. "Judging your work slows you down." 📉 It will sometimes stop you dead in your tracks. Several times I have begun a piece of writing, judged it as lousy, and stopped. P.S. Since you aren’t buying your writing, let the people who are judge it. Your job is to write. 📝
