In yesterday's budget, Chancellor Rt Hon Rachel Reeves announced a £500m annual increase in local roads maintenance, nearly 50% more than the previous budget, to tackle potholes and restore road quality. National Highways will receive interim funding to keep strategic projects moving while we wait for the next Road Investment Strategy. Some projects, like A47 dualling, will continue, while others are now shelved. The budget also included good news for EVs and active travel with £200m for charging infrastructure, £100m for cycling and walking paths, and support for greener vehicles. Funding for EVs, active travel and road maintenance is welcome news, but there are concerns about the future funding of infrastructure initiatives, as we transition to electric vehicles without a distance-based road pricing model. https://lnkd.in/enwMz4jA
