In Wood Mackenzie's recent report - The Changing Shape of European Storage - it's notable that 50% of Europe's project pipeline for storage - by capacity - is in the UK. This demonstrates the strength of the UK's #innovation and capability in #LDES and storage 🔋 more broadly. Currently 1502 projects are live across 33 European countries, representing 62GW of storage capacity. It's clear that more and more governments are realising that #energystorage is central to delivering #decarbonised energy systems with #renewables at the centre 🎯. Just one of Highview Power's large plants can store enough power for 650,000 homes for 12.5 hours. With a small footprint and the ability to be located anywhere, our #technology is fully capable of maximising the UK's huge offshore wind capacity. We say it again and again – but, seriously, there's no #transition without #storage 💪💚. Read more here https://lnkd.in/ea6vefFj

The growth of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects in Australia is accelerating with over 650 currently under development. It was a busy year for BESS proposals, in 2024 we added over 300 new battery projects to the RenewMap database, including over 65GW/148GWh of storage capacity. New South Wales is leading the charge in new battery projects, with over 22GW/79GWh being proposed in 2024. Queensland is not far behind, with 21GW/24GWh of new BESS projects and Victoria with 12GW/15GWh proposed. With major projects like Melbourne Renewable Energy Hub in Victoria, Blyth BESS Stage 1 in South Australia, Orana BESS in New South Wales, and Ulinda Park BESS in Queensland moving into construction in 2024, Australia is making significant strides in crucial grid stabilising battery projects across the country. RenewMap provides near real-time insights and comprehensive data on BESS projects, helping industry professionals and governments stay ahead of the curve. From project locations to status updates, we offer the intelligence you need to drive decision-making in this rapidly evolving sector. 🔍 Ready to explore? Ontario's Clean Energy Future: Ontario is embarking on a transformative journey with the IESO's ambitious plan to procure 5,000 MW of new clean electricity by 2035. This massive project is crucial for meeting Ontario's future energy needs and advancing towards a net-zero carbon economy. The plan includes diverse sources such as wind, solar, hydro, and bioenergy, ensuring a robust and sustainable energy mix. Key to this transition is effective grid integration. The IESO is focusing on modernizing Transmission infrastructure and deploying advanced storage technologies to ensure reliability and efficiency across the system. The Oneida Energy Storage Project stands out as a flagship initiative, showcasing large-scale battery storage capabilities. However, as we look ahead, incorporating thermal energy storage systems could offer additional benefits. Technologies like sensible and latent heat storage can leverage Ontario's geographical advantages, providing sustainable energy storage solutions. My academic case study project on GIES-CSP technology gave me valuable insights into the sensible heat storage method, and the use of GIS to identify geographical locations with high solar irradiance highlights the natural advantages Ontario enjoys due to its favorable climate patterns. Solar energy will play a major role in the IESO's ambitious journey. This will further reduce the dependency on natural gas, lower the overall carbon footprint, and accelerate our path to net-zero emissions What are your thoughts on the future of energy storage in Ontario? What other storage solutions do you think have the most potential? SHILPA BABU Megha Sudheer GABRIELA S EZHUPARAYIL #RenewableEnergySystems #EnergyStorage #NetZero #Sustainability

How to reform traditional electricity market design to absorb more distributed energy resources (DER) like rooftop solar in power grid system and make clean energy transition happen. A good lesson learn from the Australian electricity market. Proposed reforms include: -managing the entry of new resources into the market and the orderly exit of fossil fuel generation -developing fit-for-purpose essential system services and scheduling and ahead markets -incorporating the integration of DER and establishing a two-sided market with associated scheduling, technical, regulatory and consumer protection reforms -developing the transmission grid and access to support investment and reduce overall costs.
