Should we expect announcements on the national airline to be made in Maltese, English and the language of the country which the flight is flying to or from? YES. Should we expect the majority of the crew to be able to communicate well in both Maltese and English? YES. Would it be reasonable to have at least one crew member who is fluent in the language of the country which the flight is flying to or from? YES, it is desireable to provide a good service and imperative for safety reasons. How big is the pool of people who want to work as cabin crew and can communicate well in both Maltese and English and are fluent in at least one other language? SMALL, and getting smaller every day. Is considering supplementing the workforce with people who bring a wider language skillset a good idea? DEFINITELY, it is imperative given the shortage of resources and shrinking language skill set that we are experiencing in the local workforce. How do we come across when we politicise decisions that make good business sense and enhance our service offering on the international market? PETTY.

BIG shout out to Eurowings staff, who made my journey smooth! I compared this to a flight I had with a different airline at the beginning of the week! 3 Things that made my Flight Smooth 1 & 2) Attentiveness to detail & Proactivity - the flight staff remembered me and came back to ask something I was unsure of before (a small detail about how I like my coffee). )! It was a little gesture that went a thousand miles! It made me feel seen and genuinely cared for as a passenger! 3) Professionality – they treated their economy passengers with the same measure of respect as those in business class Earlier in the week, I witnessed another airline hostess refuse to give another passenger on my row a tissue that she had asked for. That passenger made a complaint to her manager and caused a scene. Whilst I’m not going to name and shame that other airline, I have to state how impressed I am from the proficiency of the staff Eurowings. An Area for Improvement: While the overall experience was excellent, one thing I noticed—both with Eurowings and in the industry more broadly—is the need for improved English pronunciation among staff. Clear communication is essential, especially in high-stress situations or for non-native speakers. Pronunciation training can enhance clarity and avoid misunderstandings, contributing to even better service. Investing in this will not only benefit passengers but also empower airline staff to communicate more effectively. Eurowings has set a high standard, but there’s always room to improve across the industry! #CustomerService #TravelExperience #Eurowings #EnglishPronunciation #Aviation #ProfessionalDevelopment

Flying on Delta Air Lines today on my way to Maine to visit my daughters, and I just overheard a young woman say, “Yeah, this is so much better than Spirit Airlines.” It made me reflect on how normal the Delta experience is for me because I’ve been flying Delta for years. ✈️ Her comment brought a few things to mind, primarily around the idea of standards. Being an Atlanta resident, I’ve been loyal to Delta for years and consider it THE standard for flying. Perhaps it’s because Delta maintains a high level of service, or maybe it’s just familiarity, but generally, I’ve found my experiences on Delta to be superior to other airlines. For this young woman, Spirit was her standard until today, which likely marks a new standard for her. 🌟 This got me thinking about how our standards evolve as we grow and gain new experiences. Recently, I flew with Qatar Airways and Singapore Airlines for a trip to Indonesia and Singapore, and those experiences set another new standard for me. The personalized service and attention to detail, like rose-scented syrup over fresh berries and an electric candle for a candlelight dinner in the air, were remarkable. 🕯️🍓 It’s important to set high standards for ourselves, but we should never be so arrogant that we can’t comfortably adjust. I’ve heard some people insist that they can only fly first class, as if anything else is beneath them. That’s not what I’m getting at. That’s arrogance. 🚫 True growth comes from experiencing different levels and remaining humble enough to appreciate each one. It’s a reminder that our expectations and standards are constantly being shaped by our experiences. What experiences have reshaped your standards? How do you ensure you’re constantly raising the bar in your personal and professional life while staying flexible? #RaisingStandards #CustomerExperience #PersonalGrowth #StayHumble

Finally a benefit for seafarers.
Qatar Airways are way ahead of Emirates British Airways and Singapore Airlines to name a few. They realise that NO SEAFARERS = NO SHIPPING = NO SHOPPING Most seaman waiting in airports among business men rushing to meetings and tourists trying to control their children while waiting to board their flight on to a sunny beach for a holiday have been away from families for months on end working offshore under conditions that few landlubbers would contemplate working in. At last an airport that recognizes that we should be treating these people with the respect they deserve and giving something back to them for the services that they provide, in way of a very special comfortable lounge to wait for their flights. Well done Qatar Airways #marinesurvey #invest #maritime ##marineinsurance ##marinemoney #timesmarinesurvey #aalmarsurveysgroup #bank #resolve #investing #shipping #maritime #smitsalvage #IMO #wista #poseidonia #shippingindustry #capitallink#MaritimeEvent #IndustryLeadership #Networking #Innovation #MarineSurveys #ConsultancyServices #AalmarMarineSurveys @northstandard #westofengland #thelittleshipclub #DiversityAndInclusion

✈️✈️✈️ I’ve always had a passion for travel – the thrill of airports, the excitement of boarding a plane, and the feeling of experiencing new places never gets old. My friends and family have even suggested that I’d be a great cabin crew. Inspired by this, I recently started looking into what it would take to turn this dream into a career. But as I dug deeper, I realized how challenging it is. Coming from Armenia and living in Europe, I’ve faced hurdles just trying to get my foot in the door professionally. And with cabin crew roles, many airlines require candidates to be EU residents or speak the local language. It feels like a huge setback, especially for someone who’s always chased new experiences and connections. While these restrictions are discouraging, I’m not one to give up easily. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that resilience can open doors where there seem to be none. I’ll keep pushing forward, staying open to new possibilities, and finding ways to keep my travel dreams alive – because every journey starts with persistence. I believe airlines should step up and help bridge this gap. More airlines could offer training programs and relocation sponsorships for passionate young people – just as other industries often sponsor talented graduates from outside the EU. Giving aspiring cabin crew/ ATC members the opportunity to train and work internationally would not only help meet demand but also foster a more diverse, globally connected workforce. Let’s hope for the best! ✈️✈️✈️ #airlines #cabincrew #ATC Ryanair - Europe's Favourite Airline Wizz Air airBaltic Emirates Lufthansa Airtraffic LOT Polish Airlines
