“Two years to save the world”. A very serious message today from Simon Stiell Executive Secretary of UN Climate Change on what needs to be done by COP30 and it’s long term significance. Please follow some of the important work at Chatham House many of the topics are essential for Execs of both business and public sector to consider. #climatecrisis #sustainability #leadership https://lnkd.in/eUH-9YWu

🌎🌿 #COP29 is aiming to agree on a New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG), a revised global financial target to support developing countries with their climate finance needs. Countries are also getting ready to present updated national climate action plans, or Nationally Determined Contributions #NDC, under the Paris Agreement, which are due by early 2025. 💼 Mobilising climate finance from the public and private sector at the speed and scale necessary is essential to reducing the divisions between countries in the Global North and South. 🔗 Linking to these issues, #Euroclima, through GIZ, has published the “Private Sector Climate Finance and Biodiversity Conservation in Latin America and the Caribbean” report, which aims to present an initial mapping exercise of private sector entities that provide climate finance for countries in the region. This initial exercise of private sector entities, provides a better understanding of the landscape of climate investment opportunities and potential partners in #LAC. 👉 Download the publication here: https://bit.ly/4euAmwx #Climatefinance #ClimateAction #Sustainability #Biodiversity #GlobalGateway #PrivateSector #Investments #LatinAmerica #Caribbean #EU Andrea Rodriguez Osuna Claudia Cordero

Have you read Malcolm Gladwell’s book Blink? There’s an intriguing case where daycare centers imposed fines on parents who picked up their children late. Surprisingly, the fines led to an increase in tardiness. Parents perceived the fines as a fee for being late, making it seem more permissible to arrive late since they’ve ‘paid’ for it. This counterintuitive outcome shows how fines can fail to change behavior effectively. (Or it being an insufficient financial deterrent.) This example draws a parallel to the use of carbon credits. In my view, relying on carbon credits isn’t the most effective path to achieving net-zero emissions. We should instead focus on examining and modifying our current behaviors such as fixing energy inefficiencies, rather than simply compensating for our impact. What do you think? #sustainability #netzero
For anyone working within the sustainability sector, your LinkedIn feeds are probably jam-packed with opinions about the latest Science-Based Targets Initiative #SBTI update around allowing carbon credits to be used as part of Scope 3 reduction targets. For those of you not in the sustainability sector, you may have been lucky and escaped the opinion tsunami. Either way, it's fascinating to see what can dominate the news. For both parties - regardless of if you work within sustainability or not - I can almost guarantee you won't have seen the news from UN Climate Chief who last week stated that we have ‘Two Years to Save the World’ from the climate crisis. This news should have knocked every headline off the charts, including the SBTi news. It's not even comparable. One is talking about setting targets and skipping corners to meet them, whilst the other is talking about the importance of being bold and actually taking climate action. If you do anything with your time this week, I encourage you to watch this video https://lnkd.in/enuehrZw of Simon Stiell's speech delivered at London thinktank Chatham House last week. Some of my favourite quotes include: 🤼 “A recent survey by Gallup of 130,000 people in 125 countries found that 89% want stronger climate action by governments. Yet too often we’re seeing signs of climate action slipping down cabinet agendas” 💰 “A quantum leap this year in climate finance is both essential and entirely achievable. Every day, finance ministers, CEOs, investors, and development bankers direct trillions of dollars. It’s time to shift those dollars from the energy and infrastructure of the past, towards that of a cleaner, more resilient future… And to ensure that the poorest and most vulnerable countries benefit" 📜 "We still have a chance to make greenhouse gas emissions tumble, with a new generation of national climate plans. But we need these stronger plans, now." 🙌 "Every voice matters. Yours have never been more important. If you want bolder climate action, now is the time to make yours count.”

You know LinkedIn needs to improve their algorithm when Seth Godin reflections get a +- 100 likes and a dozen comments, and a person talking about mediocre personal brand generic advice, like follow your dreams, or you can all do it in a week gets 10x more engagement. It seems like the first step would be to empower content that have no intent to sell, or to self promote; but instead provide original thoughts. ¿what is the value of a good idea?
Catastrophizing toward action

1moI am trying to wrap my mind around the fact that Lidl and Aldi (at least my local ones) stopped stocking Heura. I'm worried about this. Not for Heura but for them. Their off-brand products are horrible; tasteless and let's not talk about nutrition...
