I wonder how long to we hear about mass resignations at Amazon... Or Amazon complaining about it being hard to find or hire top talent. Why make the office a mandate when work can be done from everywhere, why?! Give me some good reasons to help me understand this. #HR #HumanResources #HRmanagement #WFH #RTO #FutureOfWork

Amazon's return-to-office mandate is sparking debate. 📉 A recent poll shows that 36% of senior-level job seekers have been influenced to look elsewhere due to such policies. An interesting story on return to office mandates and the changing nature of the workforce expectations. This and other stories of a similar nature, seems to indicate a workforce that has evolved from the traditional office based one, and the gap between them and business leaders who are still entrenched in the office culture. Only time will tell which culture will become the "norm" ..until the next cultural shift occurs. What are your thoughts? #pmandre #workplaceculture #returntooffice #amazon

Amazon might want (desk) staff back in the office full time, but "Prof Bloom, from Stanford University, said he did not think the announcements were a sign of a wider shift in work policies, noting that his data has found time spent at the office has been fairly stable for more than a year." So it seems that there is more reporting of companies that are ditching the hybrid model than those maintaining or expanding it. In my opinion, it all comes down to the numbers. If you're productive and it shows in the data, that's all that counts. Not the location, just the outputs. https://lnkd.in/dU9UNmbe #employeeengagement #leadership #hr #employeeexperience #humanresources #business #employeeappreciation #companyculture #management #culture #employeewellbeing #teamwork #teambuilding #motivation

“Survey: 73% of Amazon workers are considering quitting after 5-day in-office mandate” For many, the news that they will be returning to office five days a week in several months has been challenging. Amazon hired a large number of individuals right before and during Covid, and those individuals have seen freedoms, contracts, and expected lifestyles consistently challenged over the last 12 months. The RTO mandate last year cost Amazon many good employees. The latest news will cost them more. So how do those of us who have these changes made for us hope to mitigate these losses and retain valued coworkers and friends? 1) As managers and people leaders, it will be paramount to prioritize and model community and empathy in the workplace. Whether people want to admit it or not, change is challenging for us all. While the message of RTO is mundane for some, it can be life altering for others. Create space for people. Be genuine. Allow them to be vulnerable if necessary. Even still, they may make the decision to move on for themselves (and that is okay). 2) Inspire them. Intrigue them. Challenge folks who have been languishing or working themselves into a fervor with creative outlets if possible. Encourage them to pursue passion projects or ways to get involved beyond their day to day responsibilities. If you give people the opportunity to create meaning in the workplace beyond just a place to earn a paycheck, you’ll inspire and foster a sense of belonging. 3. Communicate. Often. Transparently. Change can be scary. But responsible management through messaging, even if it’s just touching base to share that there is still no news and you’ll tell them ASAP can be reassuring that you haven’t forgotten them or don’t value their plight. I’m thankful that I’m surrounded by good people. If you aren’t, feel free to reach out and connect. I wish you each the best of luck in navigating this time in the best way you can. #rto #amazon #communicate #community #inspire #change

I really valued the Amazon HR org's commitment to robust experimentation and innovation when I was there. With this 5-day-in-office mandate, I'm fascinated to see findings, especially on: (1) ED&I and (2) the impact on global teams who aren't co-located, or even in the same timezone. Please do share research, insights or anecdotes you're seeing as this experiment plays out. https://lnkd.in/eT-2YDat

After Amazon recalled employees to the office last month for a 5 day in-office working week, we held a poll to gauge sentiment on the impact policies such as this might make on the UK workforce. The poll overwhelmingly showed that our followers believe that if this policy is more widely employed, we might again experience something like the 'great resignation' that occurred after Covid. Food for thought if you are considering changing the mandate around in-office working patterns or requirements. The appetite for flexibility remains. #RemoteWorking #HybridWorking

Forcing your staff to return to work is not a reflection on their lack of performance - it's a reflection of: 👎 How leadership lacks the skills to support their teams virtually. 👎 How big corporations don't trust their workers. 👎 It's about filling vacant office buildings (instead of repurposing them). 👎 It's about control (or the illusion of it). We all know that the pandemic forced a lot of companies into remote work, but those who served in first-line, mid-level, and C-Suite roles received very little training/support on how to operate virtually. Having a change management plan helps with these big transitions (even in the wake of something unprecedented like a pandemic). But instead of accepting this shift in culture as a means of elevating the future of work, companies want to revert to "traditional" work conditions. Which only benefits...well, the companies. It's worth noting that traditional work environments were often influenced by patriarchal and prejudiced ideologies, but that's a subject for a separate conversation. Regardless of the issues that Amazon is facing, the real risk with their return to work announcement is the turnover costs and how this reinforces their reputation as an employer. What do you think? #returntowork #hybridschedule #changemanagement #amazon
