Just over 3 weeks to go before the final of Samsung Electronics' Solve For Tomorrow competition! Keep your eyes peeled - the ideas this year are sounding amazing! I'm sure you'll see some more posts after the 19th! The four categories of ideas the 10 finalists chose from are: 🌍 Sustainability ❤️ Health and Wellbeing 📚 Education 🌐 Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Which one would you pick? My team, #OLEO, chose sustainability, and I'm pleased to see more from this category this year as well! Competitions like #SolveForTomorrow are a great way to facilitate the ideas of the younger generation, giving them the skills and opportunities they otherwise may not have. From experience, the post-competition workshops helped massively and introduced me to the world of start-ups, which would have been much more difficult navigating without the expert advice we received. So the final (19th June) isn't the end for these innovations! 🚀 Every Big Brand Started Small 🚀 Did you know? Nokia's first product was… toilet paper! Samsung Electronics began as a humble grocery store. Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. started out making tractors. BIC began with pens, not razors or lighters. LG Electronics origins trace back to facial cream. Every successful brand has a story of evolution. They didn’t start as the giants they are today, and their first products were far from their best. The takeaway? Your first version doesn’t need to be perfect. Growth and reinvention are part of the journey. In business, as in life, it’s all about resilience and a willingness to adapt. Success isn’t about where you start it’s about staying committed and always moving forward. So, if you’re working on something today that doesn’t look like a “finished product,” remember that neither did the world’s biggest brands in their early days. Reading about the demise of The Body Shop recently got me thinking about the multitude of companies that once led their respective sectors, only to be consumed by others. Each has their own story to tell and lessons to learn. Sony with their Walkman, Research In Motion with their Blackberry, Nokia and their mobile phones, and Kodak's dominance in the photographic industry are just a few that come to mind. It's a stark reminder that companies must continue to evolve and innovate, based on changes in their respective markets to maintain their dominant position. Remember the world's first Kiss Activated F1 trophy last year? 🏆 Upon the winner's podium arrival, indicator lights on the trophy guide them to a designated spot, which, when kissed, illuminated the trophy in the colors of the winning driver's national flag. 🇳🇱 Well! That truly elevated the podium experience! So, does the F1 Lenovo Chinese Grand Prix 2024 has anything special? Termed as the first wearable trophy... Unveiled at Lenovo Tech World, the 2024 Chinese Grand Prix trophy blends traditional Chinese symbolism with advanced tech, featuring a dragon-inspired design representing the concept of "perfection." ...crafted by Lenovo with an iconic design firm Pininfarina. Formula 1 has an ambitious sustainability strategy with the goal to achieve Net Zero Carbon by 2030, 🤝 Lenovo is an official partner to drive sustainability initiatives and reduce its environmental impact from technology usage. 〰 F1 previously had to move the equivalent of 2 data centers around the world for each race, contributing to a significant carbon footprint. 〰 With Lenovo's help, F1 is consolidating hardware, using more energy-efficient systems, and implementing a remote operation model to reduce travel and transportation needs. 〰 Initiatives include recycling old computers, using sustainable hardware like the ThinkStation P360 Tiny workstation, and reducing the number of servers that need to be shipped. 〰 Asset Recovery Service has helped F1 recycle and repurpose over 800 devices, preventing e-waste. 〰 F1 is exploring AI-driven predictive analysis to enable more efficient asset recovery and reuse of devices. 〰 Company's remote virtualization platform has allowed F1 to halve the number of staff traveling to races, further reducing emissions.
