Recently, a candidate who initially declined my client's job offer some months ago reached out to me again. In that moment they had accepted another organization's offer, which is completely fair as we all must make the best decisions for ourselves at that specific moment. However, after several months, they realised that the new role didn't meet their expectations and the situation had taken a different turn from what they had expected. It happens. ❗NEVER❗ feel embarrassed to RECONNECT with your recruiter. The role, even after several weeks or months, might still be available as teams grow and forecasts change very often. *TUESDAY TIP* When it comes to sourcing talent, remember this - if you believe someone is perfect for a job you're trying to fill, don't hesitate to reach out to them! Never over-qualify a potential candidate. Avoid assuming they would never consider leaving their current job, company, or title. Why? Because you never know what someone is experiencing in their current role. They might have a challenging boss, lack inspiration, crave a change, or disagree with new policies at work. Perhaps their commute is dreadful. Each time you reach out, envision your opportunity as the best out there. Imagine the candidate yearning for a chance to discuss a new venture, escape a mundane routine, or leave an unsatisfying job environment. Successful placements often stem from proactive outreach rather than waiting for applicants. An acquaintance suggested a candidate for a position in her company. By simply reaching out and asking if the candidate was open to a chat, the perfect match was found! Don't overanalyze the situation - take the leap and reach out. Timing It's arguably the most important and impactful part of the job search cycle (you can say the same about life in general, but that's a topic for another day). If you're a candidate looking for a job and you're not available to talk very often, you won't get said job. It's that simple. Some companies will move slowly, but more often than not, the majority will want to move swiftly and find the right person to fill their open role. You can meet all of the pre-requisites for the job you want, but if the timing isn't right, that company will find someone else. Same goes for hiring managers; if you move too slowly, you'll miss out on great talent. But, if you move too quickly, you may hire the wrong person and miss the right one because you were too hasty. Timing works both ways and often times it takes a while for both parties to line up perfectly. If you've not experienced this yet, stay the course, it will come. In the busy world of hiring, our team posts job openings every day, hoping to match the right person with the right job. Each day, we receive many applications, each one filled with someone's dreams and hopes. But because there are so many, we can only talk to a few of the candidates. Many talented people go unnoticed. As a recruiter, this can be really tough. I believe everyone has something special to offer. Meeting people every day who are looking for a change in their careers is a humbling experience. Each person who comes in for an interview has a story and a dream. Yet, only a few move forward in the process. Sometimes, it's just about timing. A candidate might not get through not because they aren't good enough, but because the timing isn't right. Life can be unpredictable. But one of the best parts of my job is the connections we make. You might be surprised by how willing your company is to meet your needs, whether it’s for growth, flexibility, or change. A conversation could lead to improvements that make you want to stay. Be honest about your goals 🎯 - Switching jobs just for more money may solve short-term problems, but it won’t address long-term dissatisfaction. Take time to think about the kind of company culture you thrive in, the growth paths you’re seeking, and how that aligns with your long-term goals. Prioritize those aspects in your career and the money will follow.
