The Importance of Emotional Intelligence for Cabin Crew ✈️
Lately, I’ve been reading about the significance of emotional intelligence in the workplace, and it really connects with me, especially in our job as cabin crew. So, I decided to share my thoughts and highlight just how important it is in our day-to-day roles.
Working as a cabin crew member goes far beyond just ensuring safety and comfort on board—it’s about understanding and managing emotions in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.
Emotional intelligence is a key in this role, helping cabin crew navigate challenging situations, support passengers, and promote strong teamwork.
💡 Self-awareness: Knowing how to manage your emotions under pressure.
🤝 Empathy: Understanding the needs and emotions of passengers.
🛠 Self-regulation: Staying calm and professional during emergencies—whether in the air or on the ground.
🔗 Social skills: Communicating effectively with passengers and colleagues to create a positive flight experience.
💪 Resilience: Staying motivated and handling stress with grace and composure.
Embracing emotional intelligence not only improves passenger interactions but also elevates the crew’s work environment. It’s what helps turn challenges into opportunities and ensures that every flight is a success, no matter what.

Business Aviation has its own set of rules distinct from commercial aviation, despite both involving flying an aircraft from one point to another.
A significant and contentious aspect of the corporate industry is the role of Flight attendants, compared to cabin crew members.
The topic is vast and complex, with numerous nuances across different countries.
The focus of this video is to elucidate the general variances between the two roles.
In essence, Cabin Crew members hold a cabin crew license or attestation, while flight attendants aboard private jets are hosts who do not require such credentials to perform their duties.
Although including less authority and responsibility than a Cabin Crew, the role of a VIP flight attendant has its unique set of challenges and rewards, tailored to the specific demands of private aviation.
Still with safety as top priority, the VIP flight attendant role places a significant emphasis on high-end customer service, gourmet meal preparation, and the ability to cater to the specific preferences of high-profile clients. They might also be responsible for the presentation and cleanliness of the aircraft, ensuring that every detail meets the elevated standards expected in the realm of private aviation.

Director of Business Development focusing on Maritime and Offshore Business Development, Strategic and Sustainable Planning, Energy transition and Digital transformation.
Whilst the shipping industry is struggling with a shortage of skilled workers, the cruise sector has been somewhat luckier: the prospect of travelling the world whilst on the job attracts young people. But the life of a crew member is not easy. I was fascinated hearing MARCO FANTASIA, VP Safety and Compliance at Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd., describe how his company brings together seafarer generations, new technologies and proud tradition in the age of digitalization and decarbonization.
And we in DNV are very happy to help Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. (NCLH) with advancing their training programmes and exploring the opportunities around decarbonization, safety culture and reporting for their crew.
