How do you start in freight forwarding, tell us your story… 👂 It has been 56 years of history dedicated to international trade. I began my journey in 1968, working in freight forwarding and customs clearance at a local company in Santos, Brazil. In 1982, I started a new project in Brazil, Combined Logistics. Later, I spent 10 years in the United States, serving as Vice President in charge of the Latin America region. What’s your number 1 advice for succeeding in the forwarding industry? 👂 The main advice I would give to someone starting out is "active listening." One of the problems in large freight forwarding companies is the tendency to impose their own methods for handling shipments on clients. The best approach is always to understand your client's real needs and offer them what they truly require. This attitude enhances trust in your work and increases client satisfaction. Tell us something we don’t know about you. 👂 When I think about this question, I recall my years at Combined Logistics, where I was responsible for all of Latin America. The company held a significant place in the world of international logistics as it pioneered the "sea/air" concept from Asia to the rest of the world. Dublin trip The last time I had a trip to Dublin was for my friend Luke’s stag do, many years ago, involving very early and late night drinking. It was a blast, but the thought of a 2-3 day stag trip now makes my toes curl, my body and head, just simply could not take it, especially being a southern softy drinking lager (Fosters) topped with lemonade. How times have changed, today I’m still up early, but the only drink I have is a strong coffee and I am looking forward to catching up with our customers face to face, to learn what’s working and areas we need to potentially improve on. This got me thinking, life is all about change, you have to embrace it, jump in with both feet, it could surprise you how much you enjoy it.
