Thanks to Management Today for highlighting the internal communication challenges faced by CEOs leading transformation. Thanks, too, for including my thoughts in this insightful piece. To summarise Antonia Garrett Peel's article, the best CEOs recognise the two-way nature of communication. They are authentic. They "show up and show commitment". They "get the message right". Seemingly little things can make a big difference, and when it comes to successful business transformations, building individual relationships with employees can be just as important as bravery and innovation. CEOs, take note! https://lnkd.in/efUUxVkE

This is a great example of how leadership and wellbeing are proven to be vital in the performance of employees. Do your leaders ‘check in’ with their team rather than point out the bad? Or maybe you’re a leader where you know this needs some work within your organisation. At Well I Am we delve deep into helping leaders become more aware of the wellbeing of not only themselves but those around them in order to enhance overall workplace performance.

It’s a prevalent practice among “knowledge workers,” including senior leaders, managers, engineers, sales, and marketing professionals, to initiate improvement initiatives and establish standardized processes for production without directly engaging with the frontline operators at the Gemba – where the work is done. Unfortunately, this top-down approach consistently falls short. By neglecting to involve those who are intimately familiar with the day-to-day operations, new standards are imposed on frontline employees by individuals who lack insight into their challenges and experiences. Consequently, these imposed changes frequently fail to deliver the desired results. Case in point: Dwight and the Gang from “The Office” drop by Dunder-Mifflin’s warehouse: https://lnkd.in/eBdFQDeE Time and time again, it’s been proven that the people performing the work are best positioned to identify practical, impactful, and sustainable improvements. By actively listening to their insights and involving them in the decision-making process, organizations can tap into a wealth of knowledge and expertise that is crucial for driving meaningful and lasting change. #servantleadership #leanthinking #respectforpeople #continuousimprovement #GototheGemba #kaizen

I believe that 80% of business transformation and success is achieved by engaging and inspiring the people in the organisation. This is the fundamental role and responsibility of any leader. The higher you ‘climb’ in an organization, the more you should serve, as managers and executives we have so many demands on our time, but time helping those who make our companies great, should always be a priority. Empowering individuals to take the initiative and supporting them in doing so, at Martinus North America this is the Martinus way.
