When I was studying Journalism, a professor once said: "you should always have in mind the difference between journalism and propaganda. As journalists, we report facts. We do not promote them". His words shed an interesting light on what is going on in the UK now. I understand why charities and mainstream media are reporting the wave of far-right protests that may hit the UK in the weekend. It may warn citizens and authorities. Nevertheless, we must be aware that contemporary far right benefits from visibility. By reporting the protests before they occur, journalists and charities may end up helping promoting them. Moreover, they may end up fuelling the narrative that the far right in the UK is a strong political force - and this is exactly one of the messages that far-right actors want to promote.
