“What an awful morning I had…!!!” 😡 Or… “What an awfully amazing morning I had!!!” 🤩 Learning of the week: Which of these two statements is true ultimately depends on the lens I decide to wear. 👓 Let me give context: Here I was, early this morning, getting ready for a 10km run. 🏃🏼♀️ Remember, I am new to doing sport to help my physical and mental health, so 10km is still a big thing for me! This morning, I decided to mix things up a bit by running a new route, one I knew little about… I learned that this new route has a good number of steep hills (oof), bumpy ground, plenty of very narrow paths full of nettles and brambles (ouch), very muddy sections and a crazy number of midges. That, combined with not quite knowing where the path would lead me to, made running the 10km just so much harder than last time. At 5km I was even considering calling it a day (not good). 😰 But then I remembered an experience I had had over the weekend when visiting the optician for a routine eye check. Looking through different lenses during the check-up made me see “reality” in different ways. One lens made what I saw more blurry, another made it more sharp, a third added a different shade of colour. So my perception totally depended on the lens I tried on. 🥸 And so, as I was running the last few kilometres, I decided to put a different lens on. All of a sudden, I saw how much progress I had made over the last few weeks running, enabling me to actually master the tougher terrain. I looked around the countryside and really enjoyed the new scenery, not getting bored by my usual route. I discovered new paths that could make for good runs in the future. Changing the lens completely changed my mood and my experience and made it all so much easier (well, minus the big blister forming on my foot). So, if you have been struggling this week, just check what lens you’ve put on and if a change of lens might help you. Let me know your thoughts on this one! ✍️ PS: Any tips on how to avoid nasty blisters when running, pop them in the comments too please! PPS: My dog Rosie is with me on the lens topic!
😂 love the photo, Rosie's swag is on point!

6moHeidrun, so true and very wise. It is always a matter of perspective. And to add to it, the tougher that path we are training a marathon on, the more we learn and the better we become. In life obstacles and challenges are a great learning opportunity.
