ROOTS OF PEACE COLOMBIA💫 Following our Roots of Peace event entitled ‘Peace Through Agriculture’ co-hosted with Ambassador George Moose, President, United States Institute of Peace with Keynote Speech by Ambassador Kenneth Quinn, I flew to Colombia to turn our vision into reality in the remote region of Aguazul, Casnare in Yopal. As Keynote Speaker for the Peace Forum, I worked closely with Adriana Aristizabal, CEO, iVoice Communications Inc who introduced me to farmers who could not access their lands due to the decades of conflict which littered their once productive fruit orchards with explosive remnants of war. On October 15, 2024, Carlos Ruiz Massieu, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General told the Security Council that recent Government initiatives reflected an “important re-centreing” of the peace process. These include a rapid response plan with development projects, public investments and services. “I welcome initial indications that the plan will focus strongly on rural reform in order to transform conflict-affected regions, as well as on strengthening security guarantees,” Mr. Ruiz Massieu said. Answering his global call to action, we took footsteps for peace in Colombia. By transforming war-torn lands into thriving agricultural fields with access to markets, is the pathway forward for peace. Roots of Peace aims to scale our successful business model in Afghanistan, to the abundant fields of Colombia. Heidi Kuhn, Congratulations dear Heidi. If there's anyone who can transform conflict-affected regions into thriving agricultural fields, it would be you and your Village of Friends and Advocates all around the world.
