There is a point where lawyer quality of life matters more to the durability of a law firm's business than hours billed. Imagine you're a lawyer choosing between two firms. Firm 1: Readily adopts technology to improve lawyer effectiveness and improve quality of life. Firm 2: Thinks that improving lawyer effectiveness means billing more hours and never considers the impact on quality of life or quality of work. You wouldn't join Firm 2. Clients want to work with Firm 1 (better work, reasonable cost, efficient turnaround). Eventually, Firm 2 will have to compete with Firm 1, but by then it'll be too late. Smart firms will lean in to being Firm 1 today.
