A key benefit of causal ML is that it allows for estimating individualized treatment effects, so that clinical decision-making can be personalized to individual patient profiles.

Y'all know how passionate I am about genetics for diagnostics of "rare" genetic conditions like my own. But genetics can unlock so very much more - from pharmacogenomics (which medications are most effective / dosing needs etc based upon your individual genetics), to treatments based upon the genetics of the particular cancer being battled. Translational medicine is a critical growing space to determining individualized care plans. this IMO Health 101 writeup is a helpful space to start to understand the challenges and the value.

Precision medicine isn't just about "treatment." Treatment is reactive, and as William P. Stanford explains, "Reacting to an adverse medical event after it has progressed to causing the patient to seek medical help is the least opportune time to address the underlying disease." So, precision medicine's focus must be proactivity—it requires us to rethink our current understanding of health. Predicting disease susceptibility based on the complex web of genetic and environmental factors can allow us to view "healthy" as a dynamic state. This mindset encourages us to consistently check in on our well-being instead of assuming we're in good health until proven otherwise. #PrecisionMedicine #Healthcare #Health

https://lnkd.in/daSprE2W Unlike common cancers such as breast, colorectal, and lung cancer, population-based screening for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma in average-risk, asymptomatic individuals is currently not recommended, due to it being a relatively rare disease that can be difficult to diagnose, even when symptomatic.......The researchers concluded that selective surveillance of individuals at high risk for pancreatic cancer(genetic or family predisposition) may improve clinical outcomes. Previous studies suggested that one or two alcoholic drinks per day may be linked to health benefits. Recently, scientists pointed out flaws in some of the studies that led to those conclusions. An analysis of 107 longitudinal studies with a total of approximately 4.8 million participants concluded that low-volume alcohol drinking is NOT associated with a significant decrease in all-cause mortality, compared with abstaining.

Predicting Outcomes with Random Forest Models: For example, in medical diagnostics, random forest models analyze patient data—such as age, symptoms, and medical history—to predict disease outcomes and identify high-risk patients. The model boosts prediction accuracy by aggregating multiple decision trees, supporting doctors in early intervention and personalized treatment plans. Here's a sample lab project on all you need to know:
