Why am I drive to fuse traditional 'old school' healthcare values with the latest innovations and technology? (Hint: I've seen the alternative and its not appealing... More below) I've worked across the healthcare landscape: ↳ Public sector hospitals ↳ Public sector community healthcare (general practice) ↳ Private sector clinical care ↳ Large and small private health tech providers. Across the board I've seen people fighting to transition to new models of care at all costs, integrating new technologies to maximise efficiency and convenience with the assumption that patients will be better off or healthier as a result. But it is NOT TRUE - Let me tell you my experience. In almost every setting I've worked in, I've observed that the more we move to 'remote' or 'computer aided' consultation models, the more people feel lonelier and not listened to - They feel LESS WELL. Of course we must integrate these new technologies, but only by retaining the traditional values on which good clinical care is upheld. ↳ Face to face contact ↳ Clinical examination ↳ Multidisciplinary care Only by combining 'old school' approaches and new models of care can we really take healthcare forward into the next age Do you agree? #innovation #digitalhealthcare

MCACHE Virtual Program - Understanding Microaggressions in Healthcare Thursday, December 5, 2025 Time: 5:30 - 7:00 PM (EST)   $25 – ACHE Member $35 – Non-Member $10 – Student {Earn 1.5 ACHE virtual credits} You must attend the entire time to earn the credits.   This educational event addresses implicit bias in healthcare and promoting patient-centered care has become increasingly crucial considerations for doctors and health professionals. One aspect of implicit bias that often goes unnoticed but significantly impacts healthcare is microaggression. These subtle, often unintentional acts of discrimination can perpetuate healthcare disparities and affect patient outcomes. Microaggressions in healthcare has far-reaching consequences for patients and health professionals alike. Factors such as depression, job dissatisfaction, and burnout have been associated with suboptimal care practices, including medical errors. Ensuring team member well-being also affects employee engagement and retention, an ever-increasing focus for organizations challenged with clinical workforce shortages. Why Health Design Thinking? #TimeForHealthxDesign Participating in the CPD, Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto Health by Design course last year gave me a completely new lens on the urgent challenges I face daily—whether in patient care, clinical settings, or within the larger systems we all interact with. What surprised me most was how the course allowed me to tip my mind on its side and explore solutions from angles I hadn’t considered, without losing focus or feeling overwhelmed. The frameworks and tools from HxD empowered me to engage differently with problems—getting closer to truly patient-centered, human solutions. Learning the language of design expanded my view on how we can create better healthcare systems, from care delivery to engagement with the people we serve. For anyone considering joining the Winter 2025 cohort, my biggest takeaway is this: it all comes down to keeping it simple, keeping it human. The course is a game-changer for those passionate about making a real difference in healthcare. It’s also taught by fun people.
