I had the privilege to attend a Duke-NUS Medical School seminar on Healthcare Innovation, led by Prof Ruben Rathnasingham of The University of Texas at Austin. The seminar focussed on leveraging partners to propel innovation towards commercialization. It was inspiring to learn of the ecosystem around CoLab @ Dell Medical School at the University of Texas at Austin and its Health Catalyst Program, hearing numerous success stories, and understanding the strategy that served as the foundation of the program. My Key Takeaways: 🤼 Painstorming – It takes time and effort to define the True Problem Statement, and this requires commitment from all stakeholders, both Internal (Faculty, Program) and External (Clinicians, Industry). This builds trust amongst the stakeholders, and works towards developing the Right Solutions for the Right Problems. ⛔ DeRisking – There is value in early-stage activities which can significantly DeRisk the project. Examples include Rapid #Prototyping, Pilot Studies, and Regulatory Consults. Much work can be done with just $50k! Super proud to be part of the team that is solving a major healthcare startup’s pain point of not getting enough mentorship and resources to navigate the complex healthcare system. This fall, we’re officially launching the inaugural Stanford Healthcare Design Challenge. This by-students, for-students initiative leverages the entrepreneurial spirit of Silicon Valley. Our 60+ mentors and judges include C-suite executives and healthcare leaders from across the ecosystem, including health systems, large non-profits, venture capital, health payors, and government. You are surrounded by strangers. A continuum of medical progress stretches back through time and forward into a future of untold possibilities. 🏥🎓 Yet you feel an inexplicable sense of safety and openness. Even your boldest and most unconventional ideas are met with genuine gratitude, curiosity and respect. 💡 Your vulnerabilities become your strengths, and your weaknesses transform into opportunities for growth and support.
