The Healthcare Labyrinth is out! The Afterword of my book reflects on the COVID pandemic and how a lack of universal access has huge impacts on the health and well-being of Americans who have no coverage, poor coverage, or inconsistent coverage. The uninsured crisis also disproportionately impacts minority populations. As a rich and developed nation, we have a moral duty to safeguard these vulnerable citizens. We are the only developed country in the world without a commitment to affordable universal access. We have to fix this. #healthcare #healthcarereform #healthinsurance #healthcarelabyrinth #medicare #medicaid #medicareadvantage #aca #exchanges #obamacare #universalhealthcoverage Marc S. Ryan 🇺🇦

The Healthcare Labyrinth is here! Chapter 18 of my book, The Healthcare Labyrinth, tells you about dual eligibles. These are folks who are enrolled in both Medicare (because of age or disability) and Medicaid (usually due to low income). These individuals number about 12 million in the U.S. and have large medical expenses due to their frailty as well as social determinant barriers. #healthcare #healthinsurance #healthcarereform #healthcarelabyrinth Marc S. 🔍 Essential Reading for Healthcare Professionals: This recent ProPublica article exposes some alarming practices. Our point of view: 1. Denials don’t “reduce costs”—they shift them to providers, who still bear the risk and expense of delivering care without reimbursement. 2. Prior Authorizations claim to lower administrative burdens but actually increase complexity, with rules that constantly change and cause delays. 3. To address fraud, waste, and abuse, we need mutually beneficial solutions that support patients, providers, and payers alike. 4. Why do companies that claim to serve both payers and providers make most or all of their profits from payers? It’s time for true balance in the system. The Healthcare Labyrinth is out! Chapter 35 of my book, The Healthcare Labyrinth, covers the "Aging of America Time Bomb." I tell you that America desperately needs an aging policy and investment in aging infrastructure. America is aging by the minute and costs for both long-term care and concomitant medical care will go up dramatically. An aging policy would help soften the increase in costs and help people live with dignity in the community. A combination of public investment and individual means-tested buy-in to government programs can be used. #healthcare #healthinsurance #healthcarereform #aging #aginginplace #longtermcare #longtermcareinsurance #medicare #medicaid #medicareadvantage #aca #exchanges #obamacare #universalhealthcoverage #healthcarelabyrinth Marc S. Did you see last night’s story on 9 News on the trend of private health insurers moving into offering services in the digital primary healthcare space, such as video and telephone consults? While private insurers claim it's helping make entry-level care accessible, CHF hold concerns that the incentives could encourage a system where wealth determines access to care. You can watch the full story here https://ow.ly/ZROp50S7R4I We’d love to know your thoughts on this topic 💭 Do you think these types of incentives that private health insurers are offering to their customers is contributing to a two-tied healthcare system? What concerns do you have?
