The Afterword of my book reflects on the COVID pandemic and how a lack of universal access has huge impacts on the health and well-being of Americans who have no coverage, poor coverage, or inconsistent coverage. The uninsured crisis also disproportionately impacts minority populations. As a rich and developed nation, we have a moral duty to safeguard these vulnerable citizens. We are the only developed country in the world without a commitment to affordable universal access. 🔍 Essential Reading for Healthcare Professionals:   This recent ProPublica article exposes some alarming practices. Our point of view:   1. Denials don’t “reduce costs”—they shift them to providers, who still bear the risk and expense of delivering care without reimbursement. 2. Prior Authorizations claim to lower administrative burdens but actually increase complexity, with rules that constantly change and cause delays. 3. To address fraud, waste, and abuse, we need mutually beneficial solutions that support patients, providers, and payers alike. 4. Why do companies that claim to serve both payers and providers make most or all of their profits from payers?
