The DEA is likely to extend covid-era prescribing flexibilities beyond the current 12/31/24 expiration date. On 10/10, the DEA submitted a proposed rule before the Office of Management and Budget entitled “Third Temporary Extension of COVID-19 Telemedicine Flexibilities for Prescription of Controlled Medications.” The content of the proposed rule is not yet publicly available, but the extension of current flexibilities will be welcomed by prescribers who have developed telehealth-focused models.
