The Ten Commandments Contd ...From Technological Advances to Human Values: The Balancing Act in Modern Healthcare- Keeping it real ..The Cost of Caring for too many.. I recently came across a poignant post by Chance Marshall a respected therapist and founder of The Self Space in London. about the increasingly pervasive mindset in our society that prioritizes productivity over individual well-being. The notion that mental health wards might transform into productivity factories under governmental directives not only seems misguided but profoundly inhumane. This perspective echoes the dilemmas we often discuss in our series on technological advancements in healthcare. As much as technology promises to revolutionize healthcare, it also casts a stark light on the dark underbelly of our priorities. We are indeed at a crossroads where the capability to innovate can either uplift or degrade the human experience. The Real Cost of Progress The troubling trend Chance highlighted is reminiscent of a conversation I had with a friend, a senior health visitor who returned to full-time work only to have her stress symptoms resurface alarmingly fast. Despite a clean bill of health after a brief hiatus, the unchanged, high-pressure environment awaited her return, suggesting a systemic failure to prioritize worker well-being over operational outputs. This isn't isolated to any one sector; it's a widespread societal issue where technological advancements and productivity metrics overshadow fundamental human needs. Human Lives Over Economic Outputs The proposal to integrate work coaches into mental health wards is a stark example of our society’s skewed priorities. Healing should not be secondary to economic contributions. And yet, we see this utilitarian philosophy being applied even in spaces designed for recovery and care. It is vital to challenge and rethink these norms. Health professionals, caregivers, and even patients themselves are increasingly caught in the productivity paradox, where their value is measured by their output rather than their well-being. A Call for Compassionate Care As professionals wielding technology, whether it's AI in hospitals or digital health records, we must advocate for systems that prioritize compassionate care. The integration of AI and other technologies in healthcare should aim to alleviate burdens, not add to them. It should enable better care and recovery, not accelerate a return to productivity at the cost of health. Conclusion Chance’s reflections are a crucial reminder of the need to maintain our humanity amidst technological progress. As we continue to explore the role of AI and digital tools in healthcare, let's also champion policies and practices that honor the dignity and well-being of every individual—especially the most vulnerable among us. #CompassionateCare #MentalHealthAwareness #HealthcareInnovation #DigitalHealth #HumanOverOutput #TheBrandAeye

Interested in learning: What is the future for SRHR INGOs? How must INGOs change to remain relevant, sustainable, and legitimate? The TIME initiative was created with the understanding that one INGO can’t do this alone, but if we work as a community of INGOs, NNGOs, and donors, we can chart a course together that is equitable, resilient, and accountable. 18 SRHR INGOs have come together to collectively engage on three different levels on how they must evolve, transform, and transition their operating models to be more equitable, sustainable, relevant, and legitimate. #SRH #NGO #sexualhealth #globalhealth
I enjoyed presenting this poster from the Transforming INGO Models for Equity (TIME) Initiative that Robyn Sneeringer and Kim Kucinskas made at the North Carolina Global Health Alliance conference yesterday. People were interested in the initiative and curious about future potential roles of INGOs in the #internationaldevelopment sector. How can we evolve in a rapidly changing landscape? FHI 360, EngenderHealth, Humentum and ~15 other INGOs have been working to ask these questions and advocate for transforming the way we operate to create a more equitable ecosystem where more power is shifted to local organizations in LMICs. Here is more info on #TIME4SRHR if you are curious: https://lnkd.in/dgV8Uzv3

Rebooting Global Cooperation and Education for Health Technology Success Have you ever wondered how we can tackle global health concerns by using innovation and collaboration? Let's talk about it. We live in a society where infectious diseases, chronic disorders, and mental health problems are on the rise. However, don't feel worried. Teams like ours continue to develop health technologies that will assist in addressing these issues through global partnerships and education. By collaborating and investing in education, we are addressing these difficulties straight on and making progress toward reaching Sustainable Development Goals 3 and 4. However, it's not without some challenges. Nationalism, ignorance, and digital gaps hinder our development. These challenges can undermine confidence, communication, and funding for needed health programs, putting everyone at risk. The good news is that we have the ability to change things around. We can open the door to health innovation by reconsidering our approach to global cooperation and education. We're presently developing inclusive ecosystems, creating an innovative culture, and enhancing education to provide students with the skills they need to flourish in a fast changing landscape. We have developed tools and resources to leverage and promote equality, address technological misuse, and ensure human rights. To make sure civic principles are respected too. Here's some insights to think about: 🌍 The World Health Organization emphasizes the significance of approaching health from a human rights-based perspective. 🌍 MIT Lincoln Laboratory is at the forefront of developing technology solutions to help the United Nations achieve its Sustainable Development Goals. 🌍 According to a World Economic Forum report, digital health technologies have the potential to generate an economic value of $1.5 trillion by 2028 while improving health outcomes by 10%. As we go into the future, keep in mind that health technology should empower and not exploit. We can all look forward to a better, healthier future if we work together. ...just a few Wednesday thoughts, thanks for sharing a few moments with me. Are you ready to join the movement and use technology to improve global health yet? Let's connect! Thanks so much again, speak with you soon 💛 Also, if you found this post useful, please click the like, follow or share to help support and spread the word. We can make a difference together! Afterthought: Health technology can bridge the gaps and heal the wounds in our society. Life affords no greater responsibility, no greater privilege, than the raising of the next generation. - C. The Health & Life Science sector has gone from being a weird distant cousin in the real estate sector to one of the hottest asset classes on the planet right now. Why? A huge demographic shift 👴 + Long-term tenancies 🔒 - Anyone having to talk about the return to the office 🥱 = A stable and attractive sector 📈 A great example of what good looks like when developing a state-of-the-art medical and research center is The UNSW Health Translation Hub (HTH), a groundbreaking 35,000 sqm WiredScore Platinum development in Randwick, Sydney, poised to revolutionize healthcare in Australia. Developed by Plenary Group in partnership with UNSW Sydney, the new HTH facility is the first of its kind in Australia, physically connecting clinicians, researchers, and public healthcare with private enterprise to foster cutting-edge research and innovation to change ‘the future of health’ for Australians. "Achieving a WiredScore Platinum rating demonstrates to our tenants that they will receive the highest form of connectivity, ensuring safety in their research and promoting further innovation by breaking down barriers in digital infrastructure." Why Do I Need to Be in Birmingham for the Prosper Health Tech Accelerator? We get this question a lot. And Sometimes, it's accompanied w/ expletives. I understand—it's a significant commitment, and it may seem inequitable. Participating in our program requires founders to have a lot of free time and a strong support network, this is especially true for caregivers. Our in-person model can indeed be a barrier for some. This is a reality we address through our funding, curated housing options, and by fostering a community for you while you're here. But here's another fact: it works. For those who choose to immerse themselves in #PHTA for 82 days, it can be a game-changer. Healthcare is a legacy, high-trust industry. Building trust in this field can't be done from behind a laptop. Success in healthcare moves at the speed of relationships. #today join us during your lunch hour @ 11am. Our PM Amanda Williams will share what it's like building on-sight Birmingham and the benefits our founders have experience. https://lnkd.in/eXHfnQiS

What a great 3 days at the Health Innovation Community conference, hosted by Australasian Institute of Digital Health (AIDH)! Some take-aways: 💥 A CSIRO project showed how small-number, detailed qualitative research can sit comfortably alongside high-number quantitative research. This means small outfits (like Xstitch Health!) can meaningfully contribute to the research world. 💥 We love the concept of “facts per decision”, explained by John Doulis: Data is exponentially increasing the number of “facts” available (eg genetic information) per clinical decision. As the number of facts moves beyond human cognitive capacity, an acceptable standard of care must address data synthesis. 💥 Aasha Cowey’s slide on “fund teams not projects” resonates with the Xstitch aim of creating a new environment for clinicians to work more effectively. The networking was fantastic and we have some new leads on using technology in the social health sector. More to come soon! #hic2024 #HealthInnovation #DigitalHealth #Research #XstitchHealth
