The Research Council of Finland | Suomen Akatemia just announced funding decisions for 2024 Academy Projects. I and Minna Palmroth were eagerly waiting to hear what the reviewers think of our proposal on Fast AI-Assisted Space Environment Prediction (FAISER). The scores were 6/6 in all categories, and the four-year project will be funded with total €961k. WOOHOO!!! 🚀 PS. I'm sorry for all who worked as hard as we did on their proposals but weren't as fortunate. Been there, done that too. I can only say I hope you'll get it next time. Rayane GHILENE and Dimitra Niaouri from University of Cergy-Pontoise recently presented their research for the ARENAS project at the 11th International Conference on Computer-Mediated Communication and Social Media Corpora in Nice. Their paper, "Analysis of Socially Unacceptable Discourse with Zero-shot Learning," demonstrates how this innovative approach can help detect extremist narratives more flexibly. By using domain knowledge instead of a rigid annotation schema, they are advancing the way extremist narratives are analysed within broader socially unacceptable discourse.
