What's the deal with insurance and Incoterm CIP? 🔍 In contrast to the otherwise identical Incoterm CPT (Carriage Paid To), the seller must take out insurance for the goods in transit at the seller’s own expense. The CIP Incoterm can be used for all types of transport. CIP (Incoterms 2020) now requires comprehensive insurance cover of Clause A (all risks). For the comparable Incoterm CIF (Cost, Insurance and Freight), which is intended exclusively for sea freight, insurance cover of Clause C remains sufficient. Freight brokers have options when it comes to cargo coverage, but not all policies are created equal. Shippers Interest is a transactional policy that provides coverage shipment by shipment, offering quick, reliable protection. However, there's another option to consider—Broad-Form Contingent Cargo. This annual policy may be more cost-effective but requires a proactive approach. Brokers must first attempt to collect from the motor carrier before filing a claim. While it serves as a good safety net, it's important to weigh the benefits of cost savings against the efficiency of your coverag. Have any questions? Ask us below! Also, you can learn more about contingent cargo insurance by reading our article linked in the comments. #FreightBroker #FreightBrokers #CargoInsurance #Logistics
