An open letter on the realities of working in VFX and Gaming As a Senior 3D Artist with 4+ years in the industry, I feel compelled to share some experiences that warrant reflection: • Recruiters missing interviews and ghosting mid-conversation • Relocating internationally, only to face unexpected layoffs • Dedicating 60+ hour weeks, receiving high praise, then blindsided by HR with layoffs • Burnout so severe it took months to open my software again These aren't just personal grievances, but systemic issues affecting many in our field. The inconsistency in communication, lack of job security despite exceptional effort, and emotional toll are realities we must address. To recruiters and HR professionals who maintain clear, honest communication - your professionalism is deeply appreciated. You set the standard. For those influencing these practices - please consider the human cost. A missed interview, abrupt layoff, or lack of recognition can significantly impact an artist's career and well-being. A Heartfelt Plea for Support... 😔This is not an easy post for me to write, but I feel I have no other choice. For over a year now, I have been jobless, struggling day in and day out to find a position as a 3D character artist specializing in modeling and texturing. Despite countless applications and endless waiting, the interview calls just aren’t coming. The stress has become overwhelming. My family is deeply worried about me, and the constant phone calls from the bank, reminding me of overdue EMIs, are pushing me to a breaking point. The pressure is so intense that I’ve found myself teetering on the edge, contemplating personal harm, questioning my worth and my skills. I keep asking myself, "Am I not enough? What am I doing wrong?" I know I have potential. I know I'm well-equipped with the knowledge and experience needed to succeed in this industry.
