In Centene’s Q3 earnings call, CEO Sarah London spoke to the importance of being “maniacal about data” in conversations with state partners and their actuaries. Should Medicaid providers taking risk be this determined with analyzing their data and risk contracts? Here are some questions to consider as the macro events play out in the Medicaid space. Do you know how your targets are set? --If you are taking a % of some capitation rate, is the capitation rate actuarially sound? --If you are measured against a utilization metric, has that been adjusted for the change in population acuity? Can you monitor your performance metrics in an accurate and timely manner? --If no, now is the time to start figuring it out. --If yes, how does the current environment impact your ability to hit these targets? How are the acuity adjustments in capitation rates affecting downstream risk arrangements?
