The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) has announced a significant amendment to license condition 15.3.1, mandating that all license holders submit regulatory returns quarterly. This decision follows the UKGC’s Autumn 2023 Consultation on proposed Licence Conditions and Codes of Practice (LCCP) changes and represents a positive step towards improved gambling harm prevention. The LCCP will now be modified to require licensee submissions every three months. This change aims to provide more timely insights into gambling harms, facilitate better evaluation of public health interventions, and ensure that the data received is relevant. Additionally, quarterly returns should promote greater efficiencies among licensees with multiple license types by aligning remote and non-remote submission dates. The long-awaited Gambling Regulation Bill 2022 has finally passed through the Irish parliamentary process! The Bill will establish a comprehensive new regulatory framework for gambling in Ireland. On 21 May 2024, Brazil’s Ministry of Finance’s Secretariat of Prizes and Betting published Ordinance SPA/MF nº 827, establishing the regulatory framework for gambling operator licensing. This Ordinance lays out the general rules for the authorization procedure, including the required documentation and applicable deadlines, marking another vital step toward the long-expected launch of the country’s regulated gambling market. According to the Ordinance, only legal entities incorporated under Brazilian law as limited liability companies or corporations with headquarters and administration in Brazil may apply for a license to operate fixed-odds betting. The authorization, valid for a five-year term, requires a payment of BRL 30 million ($5.82 million). Existing legal entities in Brazil must comply with these new regulations by 31 December 2024. It's been a long time in the making, but the Gambling Regulation Bill was finally passed into law late last night. This much-needed reform measure will fundamentally transform the regulation of gambling in Ireland - establishing a comprehensive new legal, regulatory and licensing framework for the sector, as well as an independent regulator (the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland) to monitor, and where necessary, enforce compliance.
