From Law.com International’s 2024 diversity survey: "At the equity partnership level, many remain intensely secretive, with several of the largest firms refusing to provide a gender breakdown of their equity partnership numbers." This is a really disappointing article. I feel out of energy and words, so will put it here to highlight still lots more to be done. The sentence about equity partner numbers really got me annoyed. Does it surprise you that these firms (they are mentioned in the article) would not provide the stats? Q. What are the challenges for women in ADR? "Almost from the get-go the biggest challenge is being employed/ selected/ appointed to carry out any particular role. On countless occasions once a woman has been appointed, for instance, as arbitrator, inexplicably much to everyone’s surprise she turns out to be every bit as good, if not better than, her most eminent male colleagues! But, like any role being pursued by women, the biggest hurdle is getting noticed and then being taken sufficiently seriously as a real contender to be appointed. It needs those in the positions of employing, selecting, appointing to take that ‘punt’ on the same basis as they employ, select, appoint men."
