II think every refrigeration trainer will have a delegate ask “when pulling a vacuum does it suck out the oil from the compressor?” I have had this question many times at RACHP SCHOOL, The Broxbourne refrigeration school Fair question, no question is a silly question. This video should explain. When we “pull a vacuum” we do this to “boil off” any moisture in the pipework. It’s a very important process because any moisture in our refrigerated circuit can turn the oil acidic and this can strip the enamel from the windings in the compressor and basically destroy the compressor! The only two things we want in our system is the refrigerant and the oil! With HFC‘s we tend to use POE oil, this oil is very hydroscopic so attracts moisture like a spong. A vacuum pump lowers the pressure in the sealed system so we can boil at very lower tempretures. As the pressure lowers the water goes through a “state” change turning from a liquid to a vapour, there is no “sucking/pulling” involved really and it is just a term used by engineers. Oil is a much denser substance so remains unaffected. “Pulling a vacuum” therefore is an extremely important parts of the processes we do. (If anyone would like to add to this, feel free, all knowledge is good knowledge) https://lnkd.in/eGtA849v RACHP SCHOOL, The Broxbourne refrigeration school Paul Singh F.Inst.R., MASHRAE, Broxbourne Enterprise Centres Broxbourne Council Graeme Fox CEng MCIBSE F.Inst.R.
