The Red Roses and the coaching staff deserve all the applause — what a team, what a setup, what a year! 🏆👏 But here’s a question: when does a series of such dominant victories start looking less like a celebration and more like a warning sign? A warning of the disparity and dysfunction in the system. Whilst there is still work to be done to fairly resource and compensate The Roses, they do benefit from world-class resources—improving centralised contracts, Pennyhill Park, an almost professional domestic league, and funding that flows from the men’s game. Most nations don’t even come close to that. How does that affect competition? This isn’t about taking anything away from the Roses. Not at all. They’re incredible. But how do we make sure every nation has the chance to compete? How do we level up the game globally, not just at the top? A stronger, fairer system benefits everyone. With the World Cup looming - we could not be more excited in my house! - it is time to ask the tough questions about what legacy and systemic change we can make once the circus has left town... 🤔
Unbeatable🏆 How can you celebrate the year we’ve had in women’s sport without giving a moment to the incredible Red Roses? The rugby team took home their 6th consecutive Six Nations trophy this year, and full-back Ellie Kildunne was recently recognised as World Rugby’s women’s player of the year. The Women’s 2025 Rugby World Cup will take place in England, giving the Roses yet another chance to captivate the nation with their dominance, teamwork and power. As 2024 comes to an end, we’re reflecting on the years’ most pivotal moments in women’s sport: the highs, the lows and the moments that reminded us how far we have to go. Let’s face it, we should probably make this a regular instalment of our yearly roundups, because this team just can’t lose🤩

The 2024 Women's Six Nations tournament starts this weekend. But what are the physical demands of the women's international rugby union? There is limited literature available. Below is a study on volume, speed, and intensity, including positional differences. Surprisingly, in terms of high speed running distance, the Back 3, the Centres, and the Second Row, are all very similar. There's some great benchmarking data here for any women's rugby player. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/edMuKPHh #Rugby #WomensRugby #Sportstechnology #GPStracking

Research says that people make assumptions about you based on the first 7 seconds they observe something. Looking at this , you would think the team is are angry and the screaming may shy people away from understanding the strength of this cultural dance. Some question why are they celebrating with a war dance . This can be on many things :lack of understanding, bias , or lack of interest in other cultural celebrations or observations. This inspired me to post about #understandingdifferences #cilturalcelebrations #pride #powerful #unity #strength #respect So what do we do when we see something that is different: 1. Embrace that we are a diverse world and learn about the difference. 2. If you don’t agree with different approach /situation - it’s ok - just respect the difference and move on 3. Share what gives you pride in your culture and inspires you to do more
The spectators of the New Zealand women's rugby sevens match versus Canada were treated to a performance of a Haka, a traditional war dance of the Indigenous Māori people, after New Zealand won gold. The tradition signifies the pride, unity, and strength of a tribe and is a way to celebrate, entertain, and welcome visiting tribes. What better occasion to express this than at the #Paris2024 #Olympics where so many countries and cultures meet, meld, and share such powerful moments?

Olympian Ilona Maher is stepping off the rugby field and onto the Dancing With the Stars stage to show the world that female athletes are so much more than their sport. After winning a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics, Ilona is ready to break stereotypes and demonstrate what her body can do in new spaces—showing the beauty of strength, grace, and perseverance in all its forms. As the first rugby player to compete on #DWTS, she’s determined to prove that female athletes can excel in any arena, whether it's on the field or the dance floor. Just like Ilona is using DWTS to break stereotypes and show the world that female athletes are so much more than their sport, we at Malka had the privilege of telling similar stories through our documentary Shattered Glass: A WNBPA (Women’s National Basketball Players Association) Story—a powerful look at the lives of WNBA (Women's National Basketball Association) athletes. In Shattered Glass, we showcased how players like Jonquel Jones, Nneka Ogwumike, Breanna Stewart, and the legendary Sheryl Swoopes have defied expectations, overcoming obstacles to achieve greatness both on and off the court. Much like Ilona, these women are using their platform to show that athletes are multifaceted, strong, and capable of pushing boundaries in every area of life. Ilona’s journey on DWTS reminds us of the incredible power these athletes hold when they step outside the lines of their sport, challenging stereotypes and inspiring the world to see them as more than just athletes. We’re cheering for you tonight, Ilona! 💃🏉 #WomenInSports #BetOnWomen #DancingWithTheStars #IlonaMaher #Olympian #Rugby #BreakingBarriers #WNBA #WNBPA #ShatteredGlass
