How much importance do you place on having joy at work? For me, joy is essential, and although it has taken me a long time to get to this place, I am also extremely protective of it. I believe that doing work that is joyful means we can be more effective, produce better results and do more good than if we were doing our work begrudgingly. That said, making the commitment to joyful work is not easy. It sometimes requires turning down well-paying opportunities or moving away from an industry that is not aligned with our interests.
Joyful work often forces us to make sacrifices that don't always make logical sense to our thinking minds. But I still think we should make them. That's my bias. I'd rather create from a place of joy than one of obligation. It's a privilege to be able to do that, for sure, and I think it's been worth all the work I've had to do on myself to be able to get here.
One last thought on this: I think more people would take the leap toward joyful work if they weren't so scared of the logistics. Life is expensive. Healthcare, housing, food costs are all rising at a rate not comparable with our salaries. And yet, I still believe in the power of pursuing joyful work. I believe prioritizing our happiness opens doors for us to be successful. When we are authentic about what lights us up, we find a way to make our joyful work work for us.
