Last night, the 23rd edition of Heidi Klum’s legendary annual Halloween party enchanted Hard Rock Hotel NY! The Venue at Music Row was transformed into a glamorously spooky and supernatural backdrop for the star-studded occasion, where A-list guests dressed to impress (Heidi herself came as E.T.), and DJ sets by Questlove, Gottmik, and Violet Chachki kept the party going all night. We're ready to relive this unforgettable evening again and again! Catch our The New York Times feature here: https://lnkd.in/eAy96VyQ

Summer is here (regardless of whether the weather agrees!), and for those of us who live in Edinburgh, summer means a plethora of festivals are on their way! Some of the events we have to look forward to include Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and Fringe by the Sea in North Berwick. But in addition to offering a smorgasbord of entertainment, these performances offer a wealth of suggestions for anyone who has to face an audience of any sort. Inspired by some of the shows I've seen over many years, here are 3 Simple Rules of the Stage for Presenters: ❤️ It’s all about the audience This might seem obvious but sometimes performers and speakers appear to forget that the whole reason they are in front of an audience, whether large or small, is because people are there to watch and listen to them. Therefore, it is important that you keep the audience in the forefront of your mind at all times to ensure that they can hear and see you properly, and that you are serving them in the best possible way. ❤️ You are in command When you are on stage, you are in control so make sure to take control and own the stage (without being diva-ish!) Arrive early, familiarise yourself with the environment and the equipment, know the stage, check the sight lines, do a sound check and make sure everything is as you require before you begin. Oh, and always make friends with the tech crew. ❤️ Find your light Professional stage performers will be very familiar with the term ‘find your light.’ When you are on a stage there will be certain areas that are well lit and other areas that may cast shadows across your face. To ensure your audience can see you, especially your facial expressions which are a crucial part of your communication, it is important to stand where you can feel the light on your face and in your eyes. If you have an opportunity to watch speakers on the stage before you, take note of where they are standing when they are in the best light and areas to avoid. In future posts I'll share more 'rules'; if you can't wait, I'll pop a link in the comments below to a blogpost I wrote with all 7 'rules' and a story about a jazz show I saw that inspired the post.

After Parties and Late Nights are a great event format that can really elevate a venue and connect with different audiences. Howie Schnee shares a ton of insights in this 15-minute interview all about After Parties. Some takeaways: 🥳 Target audiences that like to stay out late (probably not great for family events, but a great new use for a traditionally family-focused spaced. Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium does a great job of this with their Late Nights at the Zoo). 🥳 Make it unique. Events are competitive. You can give yourself an edge by doing something unique. Go deeper for the fans or put a twist on something traditional. 🥳 Create partnerships. If booking talent isn't your strong suite, offer favorable terms to a local, well-connected promoter. 🥳 Support a cause the artist cares about. If you're piggy-backing off a big name performing nearby, consider supporting a cause they care about to improve relations with them and their fans. Howie dives into the details in the video below. Give Howie Schnee a follow too. He's often sharing great insights from his decades as a promoter.
The concept of the After Party is a topic that comes up a lot with venues and up-and-coming promoters. Howie Schnee, Co-Founder and President of CEG Presents [CEG Inc.], has been hosting wildly popular Phish After Parties in NYC since the 90's. He's also promoted many other After Parties in NYC, New Orleans during Jazz Fest, and elsewhere. Howie generously shares his insights and experience about what makes a great after party that will sell out and be... a great party. #venue #promoter #musicindustry #concerts #events

(intro to "Snakes For the Divine" by High On Fire kicks in) Your way of thinking is DEAD. My way of thinking is the certain and correct FUTURE. There is NO MIDDLE GROUND. Your favorite band SUCKS. Your local sports team SUCKS. You SUCK. (music fades out...) "Hi everyone! That covers our housekeeping for today's webinar. Today we're going to learn about..."

✨ The right party theme can make all the difference! ✨ It needs to be clear, it needs to be obvious and most importantly needs to be fun! We've seen some simply incredible themes over our many years of party planning. From 70s disco chic to magical Alice in Wonderland adventures and full-on festival experiences. Here are some of our quick tips to choosing the best theme and making it happen: 🎈Simple is often best. Don't overcomplicate it. It could be as simple as having a white party. 🎉Choose something you love. Have a deep passion for 80s music? Then it's time to bring back the crazy hair and shoulder pads. 🕺Give people plenty of notice so they can prepare their best outfit (and possible party gift) for the event. What's the best party theme you've seen? Let us know in the comments👇 Check out some of our favourite ones we've seen. #events #eventplanning #parties #party #officeparty

I have always been as honest as I can be about marketing and brand activities Our discipline is highly subjective, despite its range of real principles and actual "rules". Unlike what many CEO's or even CMO's believe, great brand building is as much art as it is science Being in the crayons business, as some execs call their marketing department, has nothing to do with good design. It has as many principles as that of a CA. It is just less boring If your marketers are in the crayons business, please fire them Design science has very clear principles. The same as other serious disciplines. Hence why I never regret having done a PhD and six other courses (I seem to be an eternal student), as one needs to remain updated as to changes in the principles of a discipline. Science underpins art A colon does not move to another place because the doctor changes. The rules of design do not change because of likes, and dislikes. Even worse, some agency execs that know nothing about these issues, undermine marketing as a discipline. They become resellers of new trinkets. Yet you don't know what you don't know To remain up-to-date is a hygiene factor, not a client solution Principles tend to remain similar, despite the toolkit changing, and hopefully evolving Marketing still needs to convey a message able to drive brand value and sales. We may tamper with the mechanisms of it to make it better and more efficient, but unless it inspires and drive sales, it remains an academic folly So, if done well, serious thought went into it Not only is Nathan our best designer in SA❤️👊🏼, he simply gets on with what he loves, day-after-day. Yet, he remains true to his craft. If he was an exec of a typical agency group, he would have become a flying suitcase, presenting the latest gadgets to unsuspecting clients with real problems He gets his own hands dirty I absolutely love this new work, the strategy, the idea, and the execution. It indicates how deep thinking translates into magic, inspiration and driving sales Different kinds of solutions based upon known principles Beyond this, it proves what the industry now fails in, that ideas must be agnostic, not just based upon the latest technology. Very few companies succeed in getting this right. We sell clients libraries of new tools, not ideas that will change the trajectory of their business Well done Grid and Nathan... this time you even made this golden-oldie sit-up I need to ask, why is this so rare? Agencies are not peddler's for the ideas of others, they require unique insight to translate into exceptional ideas, devoid of channel or technology principles. Or even whether AI was involved, as AI in its current state, is a hygiene factor Thinking is sorely missing from marketing. Now wonder the consultants are overtaking agency groups Go for it! #ideas #creativity #sales #strategy #creativity #performance #experiential #customerexperience #customercentricity #cx #insight #design #art #cmo #ceo

A few words about the work that we do in Choras Bel Canto and upcoming plans for this season by our Chief of Staff Gerda Valiukonytė.
There are teams which do&don’t click. And I’m with one that makes much better sounds than *clicking* for 3 yrs. At some point in our careers, we’ve all been part of teams which continue to outperform themselves, the vibe is great, there’s mutual trust and rapport. This fuels further progress and healthy competition in pursuit of the best standards, which satisfies the clients and brings results. Such teams have (at least) three traits: 1. Everyone’s passionate about their role 2. There’s the willingness to learn and resilience when (not if) failing (even for a second). 3. There’s the willingness to listen and act in sync with your teammates. While I could drag on describing various great teams in my humble professional time, it’s really my fellow Choras Bel Canto choristers I’m talking about here. There’s a huge difference between progress and results. The exact same difference is between a chord and harmony. And the 3 traits are all a must to make that leap. It’s been an enormous pleasure and a privilege to share the stage with the best of the best Zero8, Eric Whitacre, Voces8, & other virtuosos (go look them up) over the years. This year, we’ll be hosting the world-renowned composer and conductor Christopher Tin, joined by our awesome guests The Real Group, Lemon Squeezy, Marius Beck and many more. If your team appreciates the difference between the good and the great, I cordially invite you to make the festival of world-class choral sounds - a part of your Christmas this year. Contact me, Audrius Valatkevičius or Dovydas Braukyla - for more info on how our choral festival could make your colleagues’ or partners’ Christmas click*.
