Thanks so much to PRWeek UK for publishing my answer to the question, what one thing would improve mental health in PR? It’s such a good question. As PR leaders, we should all be continuing to challenge ourselves to be better when it comes to supporting good mental health practices in the workplace. So my one thing is empathy - demonstrating it, working to become more empathetic, and generally being prepared to listen to others with different lived experiences. I do think the industry has come a long way, though. When I think back to when I started in PR, I couldn’t imagine this kind of article appearing in PR Week, or such a discussion being so prevalent across the industry. #PR #MentalHealth #MentalHealthInPR https://lnkd.in/eAdn67rQ

For World Mental Health Day today we’re pleased to be included in PRWeek's article on how mental health can be improved in our industry. Blurred’s Managing Director Rachel Minty believes this is about both fostering an internal culture where individual needs can be addressed but also ensuring businesses underpin this with meaningful policies. From giving employees the freedom to pick their working hours to providing access to platforms offering therapy courses as well as ensuring mental health forms part of ongoing line management conversations - we recognise that mental health means different things for different people and we try to adapt our approach to meet our teams varying needs. This approach led to us being named as Mental Health Champion by PR Week earlier this year. See the full article here 👇 https://lnkd.in/e646H2ZB

📣Shout out to Bernie Dyme, founder of Perspectives EAP, now an AllOne Health Company. In the July TED Magazine, Bernie discusses how a supervisor can support an employee exhibiting signs of mental stress: “When approaching an individual, it is important to be empathic, understanding, and nonjudgmental. Listen actively, which means reflecting back what you’re hearing and not telling people what to do. Avoid any minimizing statements such as, ‘I know you are depressed, but you still have to get back to work.’ Instead, ask open-ended questions that encourage people to talk, such as, ‘Are you okay?’" https://lnkd.in/g4qkbc9M #DEI #MentalHealthatWork #MentalHealthConversations #MentalHealth
