Why I pursue MBA program “Why do you need to pursue MBA? It is a waste of time, especially when you don’t have the dream of being an entrepreneur.” That is the comment that I often receive from others when they know me applying for an MBA program. Actually, I had continuously questioned myself the similarly since my tertiary education and before my enrollment: whether an MBA is worth it, compared to the invested money and time. Being raised in an academic environment, a master's degree is not something that I can boast about, and I did not consider it to just show off purpose. After having my bachelor's degree, I went to work directly and have more than fourteen years of working experience until now. Keeping in mind that investing in personal growth is never wrong, I often spend time on various mini-courses for both professionals and soft-skill development. Gradually, I recognized that an MBA could contribute hugely to not only my professional growth but also my personal improvement, far more than these short-term courses. The Master of Business Administration program is widely considered the program for business managers and leaders. However, few people think that each person is managing himself or herself as a business in daily life. For example, when we become employees of an organization, we are providing the working service to such entity for the wage. Or when we participate in a friend relationship, we are supplying the “listening and hanging out” service to your friends in exchange for emotional and feeling benefits. From my experience, I find it beneficial when attending various subjects in the MBA course and being furnished with multiple tools and techniques. I often see myself utilizing the BCG Matrix, Decision Table, or Organization Theories to evaluate and make decisions. They enforce my judgment and furnish me with the confidence to move on. Finally, I have never had the dream of being an entrepreneur, but a dream of continuously upgrading myself. Being a more proficient version day by day is my passion and this also helps me to broaden my selection. I firmly believe that opportunities are when the capability matches the requirement.

Is an MBA degree for you? In my webinars "Transitioning from Technical Expert to Business Leader", I posed to the audience the option of graduate studies. In this case, an MBA degree. I get asked questions like "Do I have to?" and "Isn't that expensive?" I had my graduate degree from the Asian Institute of Management and here are some of my thoughts since then: It depends on your goals. Is it to widen your knowledge and skills? Is it to make yourself more marketable? Is it to learn how to start your own business? In which case, consider an MBA although you can achieve those goals in other ways. For example, if you aspire to be an entreprenuer, get mentored by a business owner for hands-on experience. Don't be daunted by the expense. Ask the institutions if they offer scholarships. My AIM education cost an arm and a leg, but I was blessed in that AIM matched me with a corporate sponsor who did not expect me to pay them back. In fact, after I graduated, the sponsor offered me a job in its Corporate Planning department. I thanked the organization but politely declined as I wanted to forge a different path. But that's another story. An MBA opens doors. But once you step through that door and you're inside the organization, it's up to you to succeed. Yes, the MBA may give you the tools, say, understanding corporate finance. But at the end of the day, it's how you work well with people, deliver your targets, and think strategically. It's you - not the degree - who's doing the heavy lifting. So while MBA is an excellent option, do your research before you make the big plunge in time, energy, and resources. Then again, it may be the best decision you will make so far. Feedback? Questions? Keep them coming in the comments section below! #careeradvice #graduatestudies #MBA #technicalexpert #selfdevelopment #leadership

My Colleague ask me Why MBA why not any Govt. Exams/Civil Services? When considering why I want to pursue an MBA, it’s not just about acquiring a degree; it’s about shaping my future and leveraging my experiences to achieve my career goals. My journey so far has been a blend of academic rigor and real-world challenges, which have fuelled my passion for leadership and innovation. 👉👉Relating MBA to Interests and my Experiences: Throughout my college years, I held several leadership (NSS, Stride for Cancer programme, College Placement Cell) roles that honed my ability to manage teams, navigate conflicts, and drive projects to successful completion. For instance, Worked for Vishwa Hindu Parishad of the student council, I spearheaded initiatives that significantly improved campus life. These experiences highlighted my aptitude for leadership but also exposed the gaps in my knowledge about strategic management and business operations. 👉 👉Addressing Leadership and Problem-Solving: In those roles, I often faced complex problems that required not just technical solutions, but strategic thinking and managerial skills. For example, while organizing a large-scale college fest, I encountered challenges in budget management and stakeholder coordination. While I managed to overcome these hurdles through intuition and teamwork, I realized that formal training in business management would have made these tasks more efficient and impactful. 👉👉 Linking MBA to Career Goals: An MBA from IIM will provide me with a structured approach to business challenges, equipping me with the tools and frameworks to excel in the corporate world. My goal is to transition into a strategic role where I can influence business decisions and drive innovation. I aspire to work in a consultancy firm where I can help organizations streamline their processes and adopt new technologies to stay competitive. 👉👉 Entrepreneurial Ambitions: Furthermore, I have a long-term vision of starting my own venture. My rigorous journey has given me a strong foundation in problem-solving and analytical thinking, but I recognize the need for robust business acumen to turn innovative ideas into successful enterprises. An MBA will offer insights into market analysis, financial planning, and operational management, all of which are crucial for entrepreneurial success. 🎁🎁Conclusion: Ultimately, the "Why MBA?" question is an opportunity to tell a compelling story about my aspirations and how an MBA is a strategic step towards realizing them. By linking my past experiences with my future goals, I aim to demonstrate clarity of thought and a strong sense of purpose, making a memorable impression on the interviewers. Impact MBA and normal MBA are two different types of MBA programs that focus on different aspects of business management. Here are some key differences between the two: 1. Focus: Impact MBA programs are designed to develop managers who can create positive social and environmental impact while running a business. On the other hand, a normal MBA program focuses on developing skills for general management and leadership in a business environment. 2. Curriculum: The curriculum of an Impact MBA program includes courses on social entrepreneurship, sustainability, and corporate social responsibility, in addition to the core business courses. A normal MBA program, on the other hand, focuses on subjects like finance, marketing, operations, and strategy. 3. Career Opportunities: Graduates of an Impact MBA program can pursue careers in social enterprises, NGOs, government agencies, or traditional businesses with a focus on sustainability and social responsibility. Normal MBA graduates typically pursue careers in corporations, consulting firms, or start their own businesses. 4. Admission Criteria: Impact MBA programs tend to have a more holistic approach to admissions, considering factors such as the applicant's social impact experience and passion for creating positive change. Normal MBA programs typically focus more on academic qualifications and work experience. 5. Program Length: Impact MBA programs are usually shorter in duration compared to normal MBA programs. They can range from 12-18 months, while normal MBA programs typically take 2 years to complete. In summary, the main difference between an Impact MBA and a normal MBA is the focus on creating positive social and environmental impact in addition to traditional business skills. Both programs have their own unique benefits and it ultimately depends on an individual's career goals and interests in deciding which program is the right fit for them.

Getting an MBA requires a significant investment of both your time and money. So, it is natural to analyze the added value of an MBA degree in general and specifically for you. The answer to that question will depend on your personal and professional background and, most importantly, on the motivation behind your application and your future career aspirations. The skills gained in an MBA program can set you up for success—and organizations recognize the value of hiring MBA graduates. Also, the market demand for MBAs—as well as personal demand to reach career goals—is rising. In an MBA program, you’ll learn how to solve complex problems and make decisions. These skills are highly valued in leaders and can not only help you land roles with increasing responsibility but lead your team through difficult challenges. While you can develop these on the job or through other educational opportunities, an MBA provides a unique immersive experience, especially if you take the program full time. It provides the technical and soft skills to be an effective contributor and leader in a business setting. An MBA teaches you the hard and soft skills you need in business. The hard skills helps graduates in the first three years of their first job, but their career accelerates after they start using the soft skills they developed in the MBA program. - An MBA can provide immense value in the form of connections. Typical MBA programs create sections of students who take the required curriculum together. These sections are often comprised of a diverse set of individuals to foster empathy and new perspectives. Because you’ll engage, study, and work with these people for at least your first year, you’ll likely develop strong connections. The connections you’ll make in business school can enhance your personal life and lead to professional opportunities to advance your career.
