When Is Indigenous Peoples' Day(US)? In California, Governor Gavin Newsom issued a proclamation declaring October 14, 2024, as "Indigenous Peoples' Day." This marks the sixth consecutive year California has officially proclaimed this day, reinforcing the state's commitment to recognizing the significance of Native American heritage and contributions. While the Biden administration has acknowledged Indigenous Peoples' Day since 2021, it is not yet a federal holiday. However, many states have replaced Columbus Day with this observance, though some states and cities continue to celebrate Columbus Day or Italian Heritage Day. Efforts are ongoing to make Indigenous Peoples' Day a federal holiday. The Indigenous Peoples' Day Act, reintroduced in Congress in 2023, seeks to designate the second Monday of October as a nationwide observance. At RWM Financial Group, we strongly support the recognition of Indigenous Peoples' Day. We believe it is essential to honor the vibrant traditions, history, and cultures of Indigenous communities, who are an integral part of the American story. By celebrating Indigenous Peoples' Day, we take a step toward healing and acknowledging historical wrongs. #IndigenousPeoplesDay #IndigenousDay #NativeAmerican #Celebrate #RWMFinancialGroup #SupportingIndigenousVoices #California #NNAHRA

Today, we honor Juneteenth, a day marking the end of slavery in the United States and celebrating freedom, resilience, and the enduring spirit of the African American community. Juneteenth commemorates that moment on June 19, 1865, when Union soldiers arrived in Texas to finally inform enslaved people of their freedom—news that came a casual two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation had been signed. Last week, Ancestry made an exciting announcement that resonates deeply with this celebration. They have published a new collection of approximately 38,000 newspaper articles related to enslaved people in the United States, spanning from 1788 to 1867. This collection includes details on more than 183,000 formerly enslaved individuals, providing invaluable insights and helping millions of descendants discover more about their families. By shedding light on these stories that are at risk of being forgotten, they are ensuring that future generations can learn from and honor the past. On this Juneteenth, let’s celebrate the progress we’ve made while recognizing the importance of understanding our history. I encourage everyone to explore this new collection and share these stories. Together, we can keep this memory and legacy alive, ensuring that their struggles and triumphs continue to inspire us all. https://lnkd.in/gqX-fBYe #Juneteenth #Ancestry #CulturalHeritage #Freedom #Resilience #HistoryMatters

If you close your eyes to facts, you will learn through accident." This profound saying reminds us of the importance of actively seeking knowledge instead of passively waiting for life to teach us the hard way. It resonates deeply with the mission of Tribal Tapestry helping African Americans reconnect with their ancestry and reclaim their heritage intentionally, not by accident or circumstance. For centuries, African American history has been marked by forced separation from ancestral roots. Many are left with questions about who they are, where they come from, and the cultural legacy they carry. Ignoring these questions doesn't make them disappear it often leads to a sense of disconnection, identity struggles, or reliance on incomplete narratives. At Tribal Tapestry, we believe in breaking this cycle. Through ancestry DNA tests and culturally immersive tours, we empower you to discover the facts about your origins. By doing so, you can build a bridge to your heritage, reconnect with your ancestral communities, and, in some cases, even pursue dual citizenship in the lands of your forebears. 💡 The truth of your roots is waiting to be uncovered don’t leave it to chance. Take an intentional step toward your legacy and start your journey with Tribal Tapestry today. #AfricanWisdom #TribalTapestry #CulturalHeritage #RediscoverYourRoots #Africaproverb #AfricanDiaspora #blacklinkedin #AfricanAmerican

The history of colonization has not only displaced our people but also forced us into spaces that have systematically erased our cultural identity and dignity. These colonial structures, both physical and societal, have long imposed harm and hindered our right to self-determination. Squeezing our traditions into spaces not designed for or by us perpetuates a legacy of colonialism. It is time for a profound shift. The Indigenous Gathering Place at the Confluence is not just a physical space; it will be a purpose-built gathering place that is designed, led, and governed by Indigenous people. It is crucial to have sacred spaces that genuinely reflect and respect our cultural practices and are suitable for our ceremonies and protocols. We need sacred spaces where our community feels safe and supported, spaces that facilitate healing and the reclamation of our autonomy, culture, and identity, which have been suppressed for too long. As we work towards this vision, it is crucial that our community and allies understand the importance of creating spaces that are truly led by and for Indigenous Peoples. The Indigenous Gathering Place at the Confluence is more than a project; it is a vital initiative to reclaim and honour our sacred traditions, culture, and history in a space designed with the deepest respect for our ceremonies and protocols. #IndigenousRights #CulturalReclamation #Healing #SelfDetermination

Does heritage matter? Our heritage shapes our identity and provides a foundation for our values and traditions. Who we are and where we come from is deeply rooted in the legacy of those who came before us. Their achievements, struggles, and sacrifices have paved the way for our present. We have a social responsibility to honour our ancestors by remembering their stories and keeping their flames burning. By sharing these stories within our communities, we preserve our history and foster a deeper understanding of our collective journey. Imagine the impact if everyone embraced this responsibility. We could bridge divides, promote empathy, and build stronger connections between peoples, communities, and nations. Our shared histories could serve as a powerful tool for unity and mutual respect. Let's commit to telling our stories and also listening to the stories that others tell. Together, we can create a world where understanding and appreciation of our diverse backgrounds lead to a brighter future for all. https://lnkd.in/dfPBZF8k #Heritage #Community #Unity #History #SocialResponsibility #Empathy #Understanding #Stories #Together
