Participating in the Tri-NIT hackathon was an absolutely amazing experience! Over 4000 participants, divided into 4 tracks, competed in this nationwide hackathon conducted by ACM, Association for Computing Machinery Student Chapter of National Institute of Technology Karnataka, CSEA NIT Warangal and SPIDER R&D from National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, hosted by Pranav Sai Marella. My team, including Issac Zerubbabel, Pranav K and I, chose the Machine Learning track and worked tirelessly for 36 hours to design a deep learning model and a mobile application that detects cracks on roads in Realtime. We initially began by attempting to train an R-CNN model. After 28 hours of trying, we realized that this was getting us nowhere. We then switched to YOLO V8, an object detection model. In the short time period, we learnt to fine tune the YOLO V8 algorithm on the RDD2022_India dataset. 4 hours before deadline, this was successful. In addition to the model, we created a server for inference and a client for real-time detection of roadblocks. The mobile-friendly PWA includes a camera for instant model inferences, capturing images (and could also collect location coordinates) upon crack detection. Although we couldn't finish configuring the client to handle the response and demo on real roads, we presented the app, and then presented the model's results by directly sending requests to the server from the postman app. This hackathon presented challenges, but the skills we gained and applied made it a rewarding experience for our team. 🚀 Hackathon Experience: Conquering Challenges with Innovation 🚀 Over the past few days, I had the opportunity to participate in an intense but rewarding BR41N.IO hackathon hosted by g.tec, where I explored the exciting world of brain-computer interfaces (BCI). As a solo participant, I took on the challenge of coding, signal processing, and data analysis for SSVEP detection entirely on my own. 📊 Key Highlights: 1. Developed preprocessing methods (bandpass, notch filtering) for EEG signals. 2. Applied advanced techniques such as PCA, Canonical Correlation Analysis (CCA), and Filterbank CCA (FBCCA) for feature extraction. 3. Ran multiple classification models (LDA, CCA, FBCCA) and compared their performance across different sessions. 4. Achieved promising results with CCA, outperforming other methods in most cases. This experience pushed me to the limit, both technically and mentally, but it was an incredible learning journey. It also reminded me how crucial it is to balance innovation with well-being. I won my second hackathon! 🏆 (after losing 5 times in a row) I'm super excited to share that my teammate Ashu Jha and I won the Summer Hack 1.0 hackathon organized by IOSC BVP. We worked in the health tech domain. Our project is designed to make life easier for people with low vision. "Drishyam" uses machine learning to turn the things around them into audio descriptions. My first hackathon ever! 🖥 🧠 Yesterday, we finished br41n.io's Brain Computer Interface Designers hackathon, a side event of the IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics (IEEE SMC). The hackathon was straight 23 hours immersion of pure BCI data. Our team, "Confused Matrix", was born in the AI Master department in VU Amsterdam. We took the theme of Data Analysis, where we analyzed Speller P300 data. We decided to investigate and model universal patterns of the P300 signal during spelling tasks. We did find learnable patterns that perform better than chance, an amazing discovery that was eclipsed by even more amazing discoveries by other teams that won the hackathon. Nearly all of Confused Matrix were industry outsiders, we were doing our first hackathon ever, and only propelled by our AI and generic data analysis tools. Since this was the first hands-on experience with EEG data for us, half of the hackathon was practical learning on the go. We learned a lot, and discovered a whole field at our blind spot, a field of great potential and promising applications. Hey Connections! Hope you’re all doing well 🚀 I’m excited to share that I recently received a Certificate of Appreciation for my active participation in the Dark Patterns Buster Hackathon (DPBH) 2023, where I successfully advanced through the intra-college round. Dark patterns are deceptive design techniques used in websites, apps, and software to manipulate users into actions they might not otherwise choose. These tactics exploit human psychology, often resulting in unintended purchases, oversharing personal information, or difficulty in unsubscribing from services. Examples include hidden costs, privacy zuckering, and more. During the hackathon, our team, "CodoSapiens," developed a dark pattern detector. This innovative tool uses a machine learning model trained on a large dataset of dark pattern examples to identify these manipulative designs on any webpage. Unfortunately we were unable to advance through the next round but we got to learn more about Dark Patterns and their misuses. I want to extend my gratitude to my incredible teammates: Divyanshu Prakash, UJJWAL RAJ, ADITYA PRAKASH, and Koosh Gupta, for their invaluable contributions. Special thanks to Dr. N. S. I am pleased to share my experience from my first hackathon hosted by #MIT! It was an incredible journey filled with learning and growth. Our goal was to build a predictive model to determine whether each Shinkansen Bullet Train customer left with a satisfactory travel experience. I'm proud to share that our team's model achieved an impressive F1 score of 93%! This project reaffirmed the importance of continuous exploration and iteration in machine learning. It's a testament to the power of curiosity and the joy of problem-solving.
