VC platform teams rarely add meaningful value to portfolio companies. They’re mostly a tool for GPs to justify raising larger funds and collecting higher management fees.
Fair take, Hadley Harris, but strong platform teams can make a real difference, especially when it comes to org design and scaling support. Founders often don’t have the bandwidth to build the right people systems for growth, and that’s where a great platform team can step in. Done right, it’s a real advantage, not just a nice-to-have.
This one seems like an outlier - https://human.capital/ But, after all, there is an exception to every rule.
Polarizing post! Commenting to increase visibility as I’ve got many in my network that get triggered by this post 😅
Which one are you in this picture? Are you the dude holding the mic?

1moI always wondered about the tracking of performance and value on outcomes with VC platforms. We're building performance tracking for consulting engagements because there is so little data in the space and functionally it works very similarly. I always wondered if there was a similar way of actually creating and tracking value via performance and outcomes and whether creating that visibility would improve outcomes like it would consulting.
