It was an honor to share my journey in hydrogen research at the Hydrogen South West Quarterly Meeting. Reflecting on my path, from early studies in materials science to leading the Hydrogen Storage Research Group at University of Exeter, I’m reminded of the power of collaboration and communities UK-HyRES: Hub for Research Challenges in Hydrogen and Alternative Liquid Fuels and EPoMM (Engineering Porous Materials at Multiple Scales) in supporting growth and shaping my career. My work focuses on solid-state hydrogen storage—a promising solution for safe, efficient, and scalable energy storage. Events like this highlight not only the importance of technology but also the role of diversity and equity in shaping a sustainable energy future. Excited to continue these conversations and collaborations. Let’s make hydrogen the energy carrier of tomorrow!

🚀 Next-Generation Hydrogen Storage: Paving the Way for Energy Transition At the Hydrogen South West - Accelerate the change Quarterly Meeting, Dr. Mi Tian, Associate Professor at the University of Exeter, showcased groundbreaking research on solid-state hydrogen storage, highlighting its role in overcoming critical energy challenges. Held at National Composites Centre with great introduction from Jo Dally. 🔑 Why Solid-State Hydrogen Storage? Traditional hydrogen storage systems—high-pressure tanks (700 bar) and liquid hydrogen (-253°C)—are energy-intensive and costly. Dr. Tian’s research focuses on solid-state storage systems that offer: ✅ High Capacity for hydrogen storage. ✅ Operation at Near-Room Temperature, reducing energy requirements. ✅ Safe, Scalable, and Affordable solutions through advanced materials like MOF-polymer composites. 🛠 Key Research Themes: 1️⃣ Mechanochemical Synthesis (MOFs, metal hydrides). 2️⃣ Advanced Characterisation (in-situ neutron scattering, diffraction). 3️⃣ Next-Generation Solid-State Systems: Engineering practical solutions. 4️⃣ Scalable Manufacturing for real-world adoption. 🌍 Impact: These innovations enable hydrogen to become a safe, efficient, and scalable energy carrier—critical for decarbonizing transport, enabling renewable energy storage, and achieving net-zero goals. 🎉 Diversity: Being the Change Today’s meeting also saw the launch of Hydrogen South West’s report, “Diversity: Being the Change”, spotlighting the role of women in the hydrogen sector. The report highlights how equity, inclusion, and diverse talent are driving innovation and accelerating the transition to hydrogen. 📥 Read the full report here: [https://lnkd.in/e8djsXv4] 🗨️ Together, we can drive positive change, build inclusive teams, and shape the future of clean energy. 💡 Let’s collaborate and unlock the potential of hydrogen to power the globe without carbon! #HydrogenStorage #DiversityInSTEM #EnergyTransition #SolidStateHydrogen #Innovation #NetZero #Hydrogen #H2 #HydrogenSouthWest #CleanEnergy #HydrogenEconomy
So glad you could present on this!
