Hyperstealth Patents Update as of June 18, 2024 Hyperstealth's solar panel amplifier patent has now been granted within the countries of the four largest producers of solar power globally. On June 14th both India and China issued separate patents for Hyperstealth’s solar panel amplifier, capable of tripling solar panel output. They join Canada, U.S. and Japan with the patent grant. India has granted 36 claims – this is our first patent to be granted in India. China's installed solar electric power generation capacity rose by 55.2% in 2023 adding over 216 gigawatts (GW) of solar power last year. Beijing plans to achieve peak emissions by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060. India's solar power installed capacity was 81.813 GWAC as of 31 March 2024. India is the third largest producer of solar power globally. The largest producer of solar power globally as of 2023 is China with 584 terawatt-hours (TWh) with the U.S. in second at 238 TWh, India is third at 113 TWh just overtaking Japan. This means that Hyperstealth's solar panel amplifier patent has now been granted within the four largest producers of solar power globally. Wood Mackenzie Power & Renewables Microsoft is strengthening their positions in solar energy via a strategic 8 years, 12 GW alliance with Hanwha Q-cells. US developers tend to sign long-term contracts with suppliers, but this agreement is the largest in volume which demonstrates its significance. By securing the deal Microsoft is not only speeding up the deployment of solar energy in the US but also supporting US domestic manufacturing as the modules will come from Qcells’ new facility in Cartersville, an expansion of their existing facilities in Georgia. This deal is an excellent example of the IRA in action assuming that QCells takes advantage of the domestic manufacturing production tax credits (45x) to expand their facilities, including production across the supply chain from polysilicon to module.   At the same time, there are some potential risks of this deal. This is a long period of time, and a lot of capacity, to rely on one supplier, especially when the supplier will also act as the EPC. Current turbulence in the solar manufacturing industry expressed by significant overcapacity and fierce price competition poses a serious question about whether non-vertically integrated manufacturers with less than 20 GW of capacity can even survive during the next two years. Besides the bankability risks, the amount of capacity in this deal also poses pressure. Q-cells will have to deliver 1.5 GW of modules yearly - basically, in 2024 the entire capacity of the Cartersville facility will be going to Microsoft. This means that the manufacturer will have to maintain uninterrupted production with stable raw material supply to deliver the product on schedule. The Cartersville plant is supposed to produce the entire silicon supply chain from ingot to complete solar modules. For Q-cells this will be their first ever experience in manufacturing ingots and wafers and their first experience in manufacturing cells outside of South Korea. Considering these experience limitations, production interruptions, quality and reliability issues may occur which will result in delays and financial losses for the buyer. Even though there are many other module suppliers who have better capabilities to fulfil the contract for such a high volume, Qcells was an obvious choice as they have invested the most in US domestic manufacturing. They are the only company that has the whole silicon supply chain under construction in the US and are leading the US residential market.

New research from Italy shows the importance of considering power plant dispatchability in PV project planning. World’s 1st dual-tower solar plant unveiled, will make 1.8 billion kWh yearly ◾ China has reportedly developed the world’s first dual-tower solar thermal plant near Guazhou County in Gansu Province to enhance efficiency and reduce carbon dioxide emissions. ◾ The plant will use solar heat instead of coal to convert water to high-pressure steam, which is used to rotate turbines and generate electricity. ◾ To achieve that, power company China Three Gorges Corporation claims to have combined two adjacent heat-absorbing towers sharing a steam turbine generator. Nearly 30,000 heliostat mirrors are installed on the towers, covering an 800,000-square-meter light-collecting area. ◾ The mirrors are crafted from special materials with a reflection efficiency of up to 94%. ◾ The two towers, each 200 meters tall, have mirrors that form two vast, overlapping circles. These circles focus sunlight onto each tower, as reported by the state-owned China Global Television Network (CGTN). ◾ The design of the new power plant uses molten salt to produce power at night when the sun is unavailable. ◾ Molten salt stored in the towers functions as a thermal battery, storing excess heat during the day and releasing it to keep the generators running continuously, according to CGTN. ◾ China started exploring solar thermal power in 2016, and this new project, with its dual-tower design, is taking it a step further. ◾ “The mirrors in the overlapping area can be utilized by either tower. This configuration is expected to enhance efficiency by 24 percent,” said Wen Jianghong, plant project manager, to CGTN. ◾ The mirrors track the sun’s movement, concentrating its rays on the eastern tower in the morning and automatically adjusting westward in the afternoon. ◾ China claims that this design is not limited to the two towers; it has the potential to involve multiple towers for even greater efficiency gains. The plant is expected to be operational by the end of 2024. ◾ The plant is part of a clean energy complex consisting of solar, thermal, and wind power plants that will collaborate to produce over 1.8 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually and prevent the emission of 1.53 million tonnes of carbon, as per CGTN.
