This will allow creators to generate high-quality six-second video clips and backgrounds using simple text prompts. The content generated through Veo will be labeled as AI-generated. The full rollout of these features is expected by 2025, with additional AI tools like automated title generation also being introduced.

Is Google's Veo model Democratizing Filmmaking or Eroding Originality? This might not be the future of video; it could be the end of authenticity. Sure, AI-generated clips look impressive, but one may argue that they lack the soul and creativity of human-driven storytelling. And consider this: With multimodal AIs that understand video, audio, and emotions, what’s stopping someone from having the AI watch a video and create a prompt for an almost identical copy of the original video with minor tweaks. This could slash production costs, but at what cost to originality? On the flipside, it could speed up creators’ workflows, streamline idea generation, and provide actors visual scripts. We might even potentially be replacing movie segments with AI-generated scenes and deepfake synthetic actors. Perhaps it’s a stretch, but in 2025 we could unknowingly enjoy films with imperceptibly integrated AI content. Lastly something to think about: the undisclosed data used for training of these models. With a notable finite supply of 1960s scenes on platforms like YouTube (owned by Google), it raises the question: what sources are being tapped into for this technology? Previously announced in November you'll be required to disclose your AI footage on #youtube. Those of you consuming content will be able to see what is synthetic content on youtube. Basically comes down to the following that will require disclosure: - Using the likeness of a realistic person: Digitally altering content to replace the face of one individual with another's or synthetically generating a person’s voice to narrate a video. - Altering footage of real events or places: Such as making it appear as if a real building caught fire, or altering a real cityscape to make it appear different than in reality. - Generating realistic scenes: Showing a realistic depiction of fictional major events, like a tornado moving toward a real town. A concern I do have for creators would be -false reporting against creators. We will see how it roles out.
