Join us at the #Barcamp #OpenScience 2024 (tenth edition 🎉) ! 👉 5 September 2024, University of Applied Sciences Potsdam (or online) 👉 barcamp-open-science.eu Registration is now open and while you are on it, you are already invited to bring in topics to be discussed. Participation is free! The year is 2024 and the idea of Open Science feels almost established, i.e. old enough the enter the canon of the "history of ideas" and its first iteration of historiography. Which is also true for the Barcamp Open Science which is now and impessively ten years old, already. After lingering around for a couple of years within the context of the formerly much more famous and embracing concept of Open Access, Open Science was finally pushed to a higher level of formal recognition in 2015, when it became an official designator used by the European Commission. Since then "Open Science" gained popularity in various ways. Beside labeling a particular science policy approach, it spun off as a somewhat natural evolution of Open Access extending past the question of access to research results and publications and gaining traction as an ideal, all-embracing mode of scientific and scholarly practice. On this trajectory of use, the "open" seemingly became less and less defined. In 2024 it is more difficult than ever to recognize the actual limits of the idea and the concept. Hence, the history of open science could be written as a story of radicalization by associative expansion of interpretation. It is obvious that open science cannot and should not be random and arbitrary research. Effectively combining methodological rigor with openness and different forms of participation might be the core challenge of the present. The Barcamp Open Science 2024 would like to address this layer specifically without, of course, losing sight of all the other topics and aspects of Open Science. Thanks to the wonderful cooperation with Open Access Brandenburg, this time we will meet up in Potsdam, in the actual and a virtual one. As usual, everybody is welcome, but only as much as places are available. On site, physicality still imposes limits. Online, on the other hand, we can be much more generous.

𝐂𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝟓: 𝐌𝐫. 𝐑𝐨𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐮𝐞𝐳❜𝐬 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬 (𝐌𝐢𝐝𝐝𝐥𝐞 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥) Problem: A 2021 study by the National Science Foundation [1] found a decline in science proficiency among middle schoolers. Mr. Rodriguez's class struggles to grasp complex scientific concepts through traditional lectures. PAL Solution: PAL analyzes class data to identify areas of confusion. It recommends interactive simulations and virtual labs that Mr. Rodriguez can incorporate. Research by [Shaffer et al., 2009] shows that using simulations in science classrooms can improve student understanding by 22%. #EngagingScienceLearning #TeacherEmpowerment Source: [1] National Science Foundation: https://www.nsf.gov/ [2] Shaffer, D. Meet WARIO, a novel approach to characterize ensembles of (highly-)flexible proteins. WARIO incorporates the probabilistic nature of #IDPs by capturing the ensemble information within a weighted family of contact maps. This method leverages a refined contact definition based on inter-residue geometry and sequence context. Subsequently, clustering these contact-based descriptors unveils representative structural features of the entire ensemble. Notably, WARIO effectively identifies even transiently populated structures. We demonstrate WARIO's superiority over existing methods in capturing crucial structural features of highly flexible proteins through several use-cases. Very grateful to Pau Bernado, Pierre Neuvial and Juan Cortés for this amazing work! https://lnkd.in/eujBvruj

Hello Everyone, While presenting posters from April 29 to May 4 at Saveetha Transdisciplinary Annual Research (STAR) Summit! I happily shared this video with my LinkedIn family. The external faculty asked different types of questions regarding all four titles I answered whatever I know related to that. At last she replied well and I got good marks. And some externals explained good whenever I didn't answer well. Overall I am happy to participate this star summit! #StarSummit #SaveethaSchoolOfEngineering #Forestfire #MachineLearningAlgorithms #ResearchPapers

🌟 Thrilled to Share My Research at SUM 2024! I had the incredible opportunity to present my paper, "Lifting Partially Observable Stochastic Games", at the 16th International Conference on Scalable Uncertainty Management (SUM 2024), held in beautiful Palermo, Italy, from November 27-29, 2024. 🔍 Research Highlights: This work introduces isomorphic POSGs, a compact encoding method that reduces the model complexity of partially observable stochastic games (POSGs) from exponential dependency on agents to dependency on the number of partitions. This has significant implications for scalable, efficient decision-making in systems with thousands of agents, such as nanoscale medical applications. if you’re curious about the details, you can find the paper [https://lnkd.in/dTDvrH7T]. I’d love to hear your feedback or discuss potential collaborations! A big thank you to the conference organizers and participants for fostering a collaborative and insightful environment. The discussions and feedback I received were invaluable and truly inspiring. #SUM2024 #MultiAgentSystems

Big news, stargazers! 🤩 Adler Zooniverse—the world’s largest and most popular platform for people-powered research (aka citizen science)—recently won an award from the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP)! 👏 The OSTP Year of Open Science Recognition Challenge winners highlight "five different challenge project submissions as 'Champions of Open Science' for their work to promote open science to tackle a unique problem." The Zooniverse platform is the champion of "Open Science to Advance Innovation" because the platform helps connect researchers with volunteers (that’s you) from anywhere around the globe to assist in processing large data sets of information for various research projects. Whether you're looking at 100 year old drawings of the Sun to help astronomers understand its past or you're listening to audio clips of frog sounds to help scientists find and protect threatened frogs, you don’t need any specialized background, training, or expertise to participate in Zooniverse projects. Finding a project you’re passionate about helping is easy—just ask the other 2.7 million Zooniverse citizen scientists! All you need to contribute to real academic research is a curious mind, a willingness to learn, and a computer or phone. "We're deeply honored by this recognition. It underscores our commitment to Open Science through people-powered research, valuing the public's diverse expertise and driving innovation beyond traditional boundaries. By democratizing access to scientific spaces and discovery, Adler Zooniverse not only advances research, but also builds trust in science and fosters meaningful engagement within our global community." Is there a better way to celebrate #OpenAccessWeek than to attend #LundOnline2024? Roughly a year ago, as the National Library of Sweden presented the new national guidelines for Open Science, one the speakers pointed out that it's time to stop talking about open science and start doing open science. I agree - looking forward to start doing open science and use SSE's excellence to strengthen Sweden’s competitiveness through research. You can read all of SSE's OA articles at the SSE Research Hub - research.hhs.se
