As a passionate advocate for the UK festival scene, this is a fantastic opportunity to bring together the most dynamic minds in our industry. The Festival of Future is (almost) here! 🔮🌘 I’m excited to meet our members, partners, and friends at this incredible event which will start next week on Tuesday, September 10. There are many interesting topics and discussions within the program, but my favorite is AI. It is clear that technology will play a pivotal role in shaping our society. AI is at the forefront of this transformation, offering immense potential to revolutionize industries and improve our quality of life. However, with this potential comes the responsibility to ensure that AI is used ethically and for the benefit of all.   Slovakia has long been known for its strong automotive industry, but we believe that the future lies in diversifying our economy and building a skilled workforce that can drive innovation and add value. By embracing technology and investing in research and development, we can transition from an assembly-based economy to one that is driven by knowledge and expertise. AI can help Slovakia rise to these challenges not only in the automotive sector, but also help its entry among the elite group of countries that bring innovations.   A crucial part of this vision is nurturing and retaining our talented individuals. It is imperative that we create an environment where students and skilled professionals see their future in Slovakia as they will be vital in driving our country forward. We must invest in education, provide opportunities for growth, and ensure that our brightest minds have reasons to stay and thrive here.   The Festival of Future is a celebration of this vision. On the first day of the festival, which I am most looking forward to, we will focus on the digital agenda, exploring how information and technology can shape our future. We will discuss the importance of digital literacy, why we shouldn’t be afraid of AI, and how to harness the power of technology to drive progress. This event is not just about the future of Slovakia, but about the future of the world. The decisions we make today will determine the path we take tomorrow. This picture though dull to you has meaning for me and (more to the point for you) tells a truth about our times. It's of the entrance to the railway station at Carlisle, where I stayed overnight from the Olympia Expo and where I lived and worked for 16 months in the mid-90s. The kiosk on the left, long closed, I went inside in '96 and bought an interrail ticket (to Belgrade, January; I have never been so cold). More or less every city has too many empty buildings as a result of us going online. Making a civic problem of barren-looking centres (and void property a market for security, as less used places can attract nuisances and cause fear of crime).Humans that we areIt's all our own fault, no-one wants to give up the revolution of the Internet and above all wireless Internet. Why then do anything 'in-person' (when did that phrase originate?), like attend Olympia? As I have a bad habit of sitting at industry association stands, yesterday afternoon I found myself explaining the benefits of ASC membership to visitors. No-one seemed to mind I'm not an ASC member. On reflection I have been to ASC events for 20 years: surely enough of a testimonial? As for how to join .... visit the website.

#High5club - or: Throwback Hannover Fair’24, part 2   It was a pleasure to meet so many interested people at the #HMI24, proud and motivated members, as well as engaged association partners and of course, potential new partners! I’d really like the spirit of the fair and the content related discussions we got: From #DigitalTwin to #Shopfloor to company specific challenges and how we face those challenges together!   Cause this is an important aspect of digitalization: Nobody can do this alone. You need to include your ecosystem partners and – even more important: Your staff! No transformation w/o motivated and engaged people. Always keep in mind: Transformation is done by people, not by a company. Therefore, it is required to provide a base for open discussions and reflecting your challenges in an open-minded round of specialized people.   #bettertogether is not just a buzzword – it’s the clear foundation, required to be successful on the road to #Industry40.   Last but not least: You may ask “What’s that bike idea and why your booth was equipped w/ so many bike parts?” Simple explanation: Using a bike as example, enables almost everybody to understand the composition of material and process, leading to a valuable end customer product – and fulfil certain requirements, like the Digital Product Passport #DPP and Carbon Footprint #PCF. It’s easier to have a common ground for discussion, instead of requiring highly specialized domain knowledge. The bike is a great way to explain and tackle the challenges together.   And yes - we’re proud to celebrate the 5.th anniversary of our great alliance: Great members, great people and challenging topics!
