We need to stop focusing on benefits and start focusing on capabilities. For years I was applying the “so what” method to turn features into benefits when writing or evaluating b2b SAAS copy. Then it hit me. (Well, to be fair I watched a Loom with Anthony Pierri 🎸 and he explained it so well I had to revisit this.) When we work through the “so what” method - all b2b SAAS roads lead to - “growing revenue.” And that’s very narrow. For example: We turn content into video - so what? We grow user engagement - so what? Users stay longer on the site and are happier - so what? We grow revenue. BAM. BAM? Maybe not. In this process of refining features into benefits, we lose all that makes the product unique. And for many early-stage companies, that is simply punching above your weight. Why? because you're essentially assuming people are aware of your unique capabilities, and you’re jumping right to generic bottom lines. But can they really understand what you’re offering, from your copy? I’d say that’s a thought worth visiting. P.S.
