🚨Meet Willow 👋 Quantum computing is no longer a concept from the distant future, it’s a transformative technology making steady waves today. While still in its early stages, its rapid advancements promise to reshape industries like pharmaceuticals, energy, supply chain management, and more. In pharmaceuticals, quantum computing can simulate molecular interactions with unprecedented precision, accelerating the identification of potential treatments at lower costs. It opens doors to breakthroughs in genomics and molecular biology, saving billions in R&D while reducing reliance on animal testing. The energy sector stands to benefit immensely as well. Quantum computing could revolutionize how we store, generate, transmit, and distribute energy, contributing to a more sustainable and efficient future. In supply chain management, quantum computing’s ability to solve complex optimization problems is a game changer. From efficient route planning and inventory management to handling port congestion, optimizing stowage planning, and improving demand forecasting, it delivers precision and efficiency. This not only reduces operational costs but also ensures better value for consumers. 📉 Exciting times ahead as quantum computing begins to unlock possibilities we could only imagine a few years ago - faster model training and inference paving the path towards more accurate and intelligent systems!! At the same time we will have to unlearn, to embrace new ways to adapt to the principles of quantum mechanics!! 🤞 To put it in perspective, a super computer would take a septillion years to perform a task that Willow can complete in minutes. To comprehend how long that is, think like this: the age of the universe is 13.8 billion years, which would seem like the blink of an eye in comparison.. 🪐 #quantum #quantumcomputing #innovation #google #willow #thecomingwave #AI
Bit scary for some of us in security space because of the issues with cryptography(TLS1.2 shiver me timbers) but good to see microsoft has already been working on some quantum safe algorithms https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/research/project/post-quantum-tls/
“Willow performed a standard benchmark computation in under five minutes that would take one of today’s fastest supercomputers 10 septillion (that is, 10^25) years — a number that vastly exceeds the age of the Universe.” - wow!
Igniting innovation, embracing learning, and elevating individuals to reach their full potential.
1wJust a few years ago, I did some research on what potential quantum computers hold. Back then, the almost incomprehensible jump in potential for specific kinds of problems was something people could agree on, and a growth in computing power was sort of expected. But the key issue people were worried about was error correction. It basically prevented "big" quantum chips. I looked into many ideas to solve it, but back then, nothing really stood out to me as a promising road towards a bright and shiny future for quantum computing. So I had to conclude with a heavy dose of scepticism towards the commercial viability of these magic machines. Seeing the Willow chip implement an exponential reduction in errors makes me smile, because it unlocks many new possibilities across a variety of fields. Let's see if this announcement holds up to further scrutiny – for now, I'm optimistic for the future of quantum computing.
