🌟 In the crowded world of leadership advice, certain traits often become the ultimate keys to success. But here's the catch: some of these celebrated qualities may contradict effective leadership's science. 🤔 This disconnect challenges conventional wisdom and urges us to rethink what truly matters. Take humility, for example. It's often praised as a critical leadership asset, but research shows its positive impact is relatively modest. Yet, many leaders climb the ladder through self-promotion and a confident persona, making others see them as more intelligent and capable. 🧠 Then there's authenticity—being true to yourself, consistent, and transparent. While admirable in theory, the reality in many organizations is career advancement often depends on the ability to manage impressions and, at times, strategic inauthenticity. Those who master this art often find themselves advancing more rapidly. 🎭 Charisma? It can elevate leaders to the top, but it's more about style than substance. Unfortunately, selecting leaders based on charisma alone can lead to overlooking those who deliver value through hard work and integrity. 💼 Conversely, some of the most critical leadership habits—like building and leading high-performing teams—don't get enough spotlight. This ability is the essence of true leadership, and the approach may vary depending on the situation, but its importance cannot be overstated. 💪 Effective leaders are adaptable, switching between different styles as needed, and they harness ambition for personal gain and to drive their teams toward greater achievements. Ambition, when aligned with collective goals, fuels progress and innovation. 🚀 Lastly, self-control is an often overlooked yet crucial leadership trait. Leaders who can master their impulses and maintain integrity are better positioned to succeed, earning the trust and respect of their teams. 🤝 As organizations evolve, so do the methods of identifying these true leaders. AI and data analytics make it harder for those lacking these essential qualities to slip through the cracks. The future of leadership selection is becoming more precise, focusing on those who truly possess the qualities to lead effectively and ethically. 🌍 Still curious, read more with Fast Company: https://lnkd.in/eKA7uYMe #Leadership #Humility #Authenticity #Charisma #TeamBuilding #Adaptability #Ambition #SelfControl #AI #FutureOfWork #LeadershipDevelopment

In a world where business success hinges on more than just financial performance, the importance of emotional intelligence (EI) in ethical leadership cannot be overstated. Leaders who possess high EI are better equipped to navigate complex interpersonal dynamics, make sound decisions, and foster an ethical culture within their organizations. Take the case of @SatyaNadella, CEO of #Microsoft, who transformed the company’s culture through empathy and a growth mindset, leading to unprecedented innovation and success. Research from the Harvard Business Review highlights that companies led by emotionally intelligent leaders tend to have lower turnover rates and higher employee satisfaction. One notable finding from a study by @DanielGoleman indicates that leaders with strong EI skills are more effective in conflict resolution, as they can understand and manage their own emotions and those of others. Additionally, a report from the World Economic Forum identifies emotional intelligence as a critical skill for the future workforce, emphasizing its role in ethical decision-making and leadership. Emotional intelligence empowers leaders to lead with integrity, creating an environment where ethical practices thrive. This approach not only builds trust but also drives long-term success by aligning organizational values with actions. By taking better control of one's emotions, leaders can increase real competence and productivity, ultimately achieving their goals. To further explore the impact of emotional intelligence on ethical leadership and how you can develop these crucial skills, join our upcoming master class. #eicoachdranju #UPurEQ #Leadership #EmotionalIntelligence #EthicalLeadership #Integrity #BusinessEthics #LeadershipDevelopment #FutureOfWork #EmpathyInLeadership #WorkplaceCulture #LeadWithEmpathy

𝐈𝐬 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐏𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐁𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐋𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐁𝐢𝐚𝐬? 🌟 As tomorrow's leaders, our views on our careers, the globe, and the future are constantly evolving. Is this information complete, though? The flip side of this is whether we are letting confirmation bias impact our decisions. How Does Confirmation Bias Work? It happens when we look for evidence that supports our ideas and disregard evidence that contradicts them. If you think "the world is full of opportunities" or "nothing ever works out," you'll uncover evidence to support your attitude. The catch is that neither of them is totally accurate. 🎯 Why Is This Important to You? Instead of only seeking for evidence that supports their position, the most effective leaders actively seek out alternative viewpoints. By pushing themselves outside their comfort zone, they are able to develop personally. Here’s how confirmation bias can hold you back: 🔍 Narrow Thinking: You’re more likely to dismiss ideas that don’t fit your worldview, missing out on new opportunities and solutions. 🛑 Missed Growth: Without diverse perspectives, you’re not challenging yourself, limiting your potential as a leader. 🔄 Echo Chambers: Whether it's your social media feed or friend group, surrounding yourself with people who think just like you can keep you from seeing the bigger picture. 🚫 Eliminate Confirmation Bias as Soon as Possible! Young leaders learn to think critically, pose insightful questions, and examine their own preconceptions at Institut Dato' Onn. Consider this: ✔ Make a note of your fundamental ideas on your profession, your future, and your chances of success. ✔ Keep an eye out for competing viewpoints and think about them. The question to ask is, "What have I learnt from this?" ✔ A varied group of thinkers is a powerful one. If you want to grow, you have to open yourself up to different viewpoints. 🚀 Unlock Your Full Leadership Potential To be an effective leader, you need to be receptive to many perspectives, willing to question your own assumptions, and even embrace discomfort. As an executive coach, I have a front-row seat to the challenges you, the CEO,CFO, CHR, COO or leader, face every day. We strategize about navigating the post-pandemic world, the relentless tide of technological disruption (#AI and more!), the pressing need for sustainability, and the ever-growing importance of social responsibility. These are weighty issues that demand your leadership. However, in the confidential space of our coaching sessions, two very different challenges often emerge – challenges leaders might hesitate to discuss openly: #inspiration and #inclusivity. These are the issues that keep you up at night, the ones you can only truly explore in a safe, supportive environment. Remember Peter Drucker's words: "#Management is doing things right; #Leadership is doing the right thing."Steve Jobs echoed this idea, saying "Management is about persuading people to do things they do not want to do, while leadership is about inspiring people to do things they never thought they could." These quotes highlight the essence of inspiring leadership – igniting a fire within your team, pushing them beyond perceived limitations. But you're right, it's not easy. Leaders often grapple with fostering a truly inclusive environment that embraces diverse perspectives and strengths. Many leaders I work with struggle with fostering a truly inclusive environment that embraces the diverse perspectives and strengths of their teams. They often ask, "How can I be more inspiring? All I know is working hard!" In the coaching sessions, you'll gain valuable insights from fellow leaders and practical tools to unleash inspiration and build an inclusive culture. So, how do you become a leader who motivates and ignites your team's potential? How do you champion inclusivity? Give me a call for chat and let's bridge the gap between "I know I need to inspire" and "how do I actually do it?" Don't just manage, lead.

Leadership research: Are we overcomplicating the simple truth? Leadership literature has exploded with new styles over the years—transformational, authentic, ethical, servant, entrepreneurial—the list goes on. But are we truly uncovering unique insights about leadership, or just reinventing the wheel? A recent study published in the Journal of Management Studies delivers a hard-hitting truth: Most leadership measures share a significant overlap. After analyzing 12 dominant leadership styles across 7 samples, 5 countries, and 4,000 respondents, researchers found that much of what these styles measure boils down to the same thing—the quality of the leader–follower relationship. 💡 Key Takeaways: 1️⃣ Shared Variance: Leadership measures often capture shared variance, leaving little room for truly unique insights. 2️⃣ Affective Connection: The "affective connection" between leaders and followers is the common denominator. 3️⃣ Focus on Behaviors: Instead of adding new styles to an already crowded field, the study advocates focusing on taxonomic leadership behaviors—think broader categories like "task-oriented," "relationship-oriented," or "vision-oriented." 🤔 What does this mean for researchers and practitioners? This study challenges us to rethink leadership research. It is time to streamline our frameworks, focus on behaviors that truly matter, and step away from the clutter of overlapping constructs. 📊 For practitioners, it is a reminder that building genuine relationships might be more impactful than memorizing the nuances of the latest trendy leadership style. In my own experience, focusing on strengthening team relationships has led to more cohesive and productive outcomes than adhering strictly to any particular leadership model. Here is the open access manuscript for the study: https://lnkd.in/eFifvRPF #LeadershipResearch #LeadershipStyles #OrganizationalBehavior #LeadershipDevelopment
